los suenos costa ricaCosta Rica is renowned for its wildlife. Within its many rain-forests and cloud-covered summits are mammals, reptiles, insects and birds. It hosts over 5% of the world’s total bio-diversity and remains a natural wonder.

It would seem impossible, therefore, to choose only one animal to represent the country - but it has been done. The Yiguirro, or Thrush, is the national bird.

Travel to the Central Pacific (which includes Los Suenos, Jaco and Manuel Antonio) to spy this striking creature. The Thrush is a yellow-plumed bird with a broad chest and green-tinted bill. It is among the most recognizable animals in Costa Rica and is known for its soft chirping. It was declared the national bird in 1977 and has become a popular figure in books, songs and more.

Be sure to look for the Yiguirro while on vacation in Los Suenos. These birds fly near the coast so seeking them out during a charter cruise or family outing won’t be a challenge.

The Thrush represents Costa Rica’s incredible wildlife and national pride.
