You may be very familiar with INFINITI’s vehicles but it’s likely you haven’t heard the story behind the formulation of the company. Today, we want to give you a glimpse of how it all went down!
The year is 1985. An elite group of some of Nissan’s finest forms within the company, largely in secret. Their reason for existence? They endeavor to create a new division that is solely focused on performance luxury machines, one that would stand as a challenge to the entrenched players in the American and European markets.
Two years later, in 1987, the name “INFINITI†was chosen. A logo was created that displayed two central lines stretching off into the horizon in a boundless fashion. The company was officially born and its brain trust went to work immediately.
Come 1989, all the hard work paid off and INFINITI launched in the United States with 51 dealers. Two models were available immediately: the Q45 sedan and the performance-focused M30 coupe, with the former boasting an incredible V8 engine and the latter standing as a sport coupe with 162 HP. The rest, as they say, is history.
