How do they work? An infrared beam on the outer windshield is reflected to a sensor. Moisture buildup and debris interrupt the stream of light. The amount of rain, snow, or dirt is calculated by analog and digital signals, and a message is sent to the wiper motor controls to automatically turn on and adjust to the correct speed. In addition, you can manually alter the sensitivity of the system or turn it off with one switch.
