The 2019 INFINITI QX50 is designed with intention. Every curve, angle, line, and surface has been thoughtfully articulated in order to create not just an aesthetically pleasing CUV, but one that delivers on aerodynamic performance as well. The latest model features a drag coefficient of 0.32 — a six percent improvement from previous generations.
To achieve this new benchmark, an incredible amount of planning went into every detail. Aspects such as the visually long, clamshell hood and enclosed underbody were specially created to encourage airflow over, under, and around the vehicle. Not only does this reduce noise and feedback heard within the cabin, but it also aids to minimize turbulence.
Meanwhile, both the bumpers and wheel arches feature subtle slits — inlets and outlets — that help to promote dynamic currents so that wind can move through the exterior of the vehicle rather than come up against it.
Additionally, the roof of the QX50 receives a slight recessing towards the back end of the body, which reduces the tendency for eddies to form. The unique tailgate spoiler connects to the rear window and contributes towards the overall “zero lift design.â€
