For the last century, automotive engineers have been trying to create the perfect motor. After over 100 prototypes and 1.8 million test miles driven, the great minds behind INFINITI has developed the VC-Turbo engine. This means that the compression ratio can change on a continuum from 8:1 to 14:1. On the higher end, the air-fuel mixture is tightly squeezed in the combustion chamber, which leads to more power and better gas mileage.
The new 2019 INFINITI QX50 is equipped with this advanced technology. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, this five-seater produces 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive, it gets 27 mpg combined (24 city/31 highway). That’s a 30% increase in fuel efficiency over previous models.Â
Also included on the 2019 QX50 is an engine mount that decreases vibrations. Replacing the two balance shafts built into other versions of this vehicle, the new stand knocks nine decibels off the noise generated from under the hood. So, you get a stronger ride that is also quieter.
