These guys don’t communicate with each other. We wasted hours at the dealership test driving and getting a contract worked out and at the last minute we were told, “ oh this truck was sold 2 days ago”. We had taken a ferry into the city specifically to purchase this truck. How hard is it for the sales guys to put a sold sign on a vehicle? You would think they would have a bulletin board with inventory sales listed. Unacceptable!

new 2018 nissan sentra for sale in redmond washingtonDear Robert,

I’m not sure whether to get liability or collision insurance for my 2018 Nissan Sentra. What’s the difference between them?

Thanks,
Grace

Hi, Grace!

In order to drive your 2018 Nissan Sentra in Washington, you need to have some liability insurance. So it’s not really an option to choose one or the other: I'll the differences between them.

Liability insurance protects other people and their property if you cause damage with your car, and this is mandatory in Washington.

Collision insurance, on the other hand, protects your Sentra if it’s involved in an accident with another vehicle, person, or non-moving object. So regardless of who is at fault, this policy should cover your car's repair costs.

While collision insurance isn’t mandatory, it is great to have; if you’re involved in an accident, it will take away the majority of the financial stress that comes with such a problem.

Before you get behind the wheel in Washington, make sure you meet the minimum insurance requirements which you can find here.

Thanks for the question, Grace! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington if you ever need anything else!
new 2019 nissan rogue for sale in redmond washingtonHi Robert,

I’m about to get insurance for my 2019 Nissan Rogue but I don’t know whether my credit score will influence the price of the premium. What do you think?

Thanks,
Lorna

Hi, Lorna!

The short answer is yes: automotive insurance companies have a right to look at your credit score. They will regularly take it into consideration when offering you a rate on your 2019 Nissan Rogue.

A study, conducted by the University of Texas, found that people with lower credit scores tended to have higher claims payouts and more car insurance losses.

So it would make sense that insurance companies allow someone’s credit score to influence the rate that they offer.

If you want to lower your car insurance rate by raising your credit score, there are a few things you should consider:

It’s good to have a long-established credit history and always try to make your payments on time. You should also ensure that all open accounts are in good standing.

If you can follow the points above, your credit score will go up over time.

Thanks for the question, Lorna! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington if you need anything else.
new 2018 nissan titan for sale edmonds kirkland washingtonHi Robert,

I’m thinking of buying a new 2018 Nissan Titan. My current vehicle is small and a few years old, so I’m wondering how this upgrade would affect my insurance premium.

Thanks,
Logan

Hi, Logan!

Wow, going from your current car to the 2018 Nissan Titan will be a great upgrade! As to your question, the short answer is yes. The type of truck you drive will affect your insurance premium; factors like theft rate, cost of repairs, purchase price, and the number of accidents which have been recorded in that vehicle will all be taken into consideration.

But the type of truck you drive is just one of the numerous things which are taken into account. The list below shows some of the other factors insurance companies will consider before giving you a quote:

    • Your age
    • Where you live
    • Gender
    • Your driving record and experience
    • Marital status
    • What your credit history is
    • If you have made previous claims
    • The annual mileage you’ll cover

The insurer will also take into consideration what you're going to be doing with your vehicle. If you'll be commuting in it, for example, the premium would be cheaper than if you'd be using it for work.

Thanks for your question, Logan! Contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you ever need anything else.
2014 nissan maxima for sale kirkland bellevue seattle washingtonHey Patrick,

My husband and I are in the process of buying a pre-owned Nissan Maxima. We’re at the stage where we are trying to figure out what to do about car insurance. How do we find the cheapest rates?

-Miriam

Hi Miriam,

I love the foresight here. You guys are planners, and that will pay off in the long run! This type of question just so happens to be one I’ve done a lot of homework on. Let me share it with you.

Here are some things to consider while seeking coverage:

1. Shop around. It sounds like you are already doing this, but make sure you get quotes from as many places as possible. These numbers are always fluctuating, and it is hard to know who is best without asking.

2. Look small. The big companies make it sound like they are lower, but often local and regional companies are more flexible and can compete for your business just as well.

3. Combine. If you already have home insurance, see if they offer a bundling discount for your house and auto. Usually they do.

Good luck with your Maxima! Let me know if there are any other questions that I can help with.

2018 nissan frontier for sale kirkland fife bellevue washingtonDear Patrick,

We just bought our first pickup, a Nissan Frontier. We love hauling stuff around town, but also got a pleasant surprise when our insurance rates went down. We’re not complaining, but just curious why?

-Dave and Cindy

Hi Dave and Cindy,

So happy you are both getting the most out of this new set of wheels! I’m not shocked you discovered a lower monthly bill. There’s a simple explanation, actually.

Often, we hear about comprehensive and collision coverages being cheaper for trucks than sedans. It all has to do with how the agencies rate the safety and cost of replacement for a vehicle. Yours, obviously, scored very high. That has a lot to do with the ground clearance. Studies show, automobiles that are higher off the road take less damage in an accident. People, likewise, tend to suffer fewer injuries.

Another factor is that a burly workhorse like yours doesn’t have as many gadgets and computer gizmos to replace. In a wreck, these are the kind of things insurers like to see. Folks have been known to save even more with older models, which are even simpler.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

2018 nissan frontier for sale kirkland bellevue seattle washingtonHi Patrick,

I have owned my Nissan Frontier for a few years and love it. The time has come to take another look at all of my coverage options, and I’m confused about what liability insurance entails. Can you help?

-Ned

Hi Ned,

Wow, I totally understand. Switching up can feel overwhelming and even kind of scary. Thankfully, there are some pretty simple things that’ll sort everything out for you.

The first thing to should know is that liability is the minimum coverage required in every state. It is also often the least expensive, depending on your driving history and many other factors. So, if the biggest concern is staying legal, this is a good choice.

This particular form pays for repairs to other cars, medical expenses, and lost wages for people in other vehicles. This basically helps fund all the damages if you are found responsible in an accident.

However, there is one important element everyone should be aware of. Liability will not give you money for any of those costs to yourself or automobile. Those will come out of the owner’s own pocket if a collision is their fault.

Let me know if you have any other questions I can answer.

2014 nissan leaf for sale kirkland bothell seattle washingtonHi Patrick,

My husband and I are toying with the idea of buying a Nissan Leaf, and we were curious about insurance. Are rates more expensive with one of these cars, or is it the same as an old-fashioned model?

-Fran

Hi Fran,

I like your style! It’s always good to do a lot of homework before buying any car, but it’s especially important when you are making a big change like this. This is a complicated one, so I’ll break it down as best I can.

First, purchasing a non-petroleum using car will save money at the pump. For example, experts say it only costs about $2.50 to power up this car. A fully charged battery will last just as long as a tank of fuel in most cases. So, there’s that to consider.

However, in my research, I have found that an electric vehicle does often cost a little more to insure than a traditional set of wheels. There are several factors, ranging from price, size of the automobile, to driving records. Ideally, the two balance each other out, but that depends on your individual situation.

Let me know if any more questions come to mind that I can answer.

2014 nissan pathfinder for sale kirkland bellevue redmond washingtonHey Patrick,

I recently bought a Nissan Pathfinder and was surprised to find that my insurance went down for this large-and-in-charge ride. I’m not complaining, but I’m wondering what gives?

-Luke

Hi Luke,

Now that’s what I call a pleasant discovery! You aren’t alone, either. Many people who buy larger vehicles discover their coverage suddenly softens up quite a bit. There’s a really simple reason for this: safety.

An SUV like yours is a big, sturdy automobile that is loaded with airbags and a reinforced frame. In addition, adjusters take into account little things such as visibility when making their calculations. They really like rides that get high marks from crash testing organizations, including the IIHSA and others.

The explanation why a more protective model lowers your bills is easy. Providers trust a driver will probably be in fewer accidents in this case. Also, if you are involved in a collision, they can also take comfort in knowing that the chance of injury is lower. So, these companies encourage drivers to get behind the wheel of cars like this by making it affordable.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

2018 nissan rogue sport kirkland fife tacoma washingtonDear Patrick,

I am in the process of trading in my old jalopy for a beautiful, brand new Nissan Rogue. Does a new car mean I have to buy a different insurance policy?

-Shanise

Hi Shanise,

Wow, it sounds like you are ready to step into the big leagues. Congratulations! You are going to love that Rogue.

Here’s some good news. You will not have to get a separate auto policy if you do not want to. Because you have a current relationship with a provider they are prepared and used to clients adding vehicles. However, these people are not psychic! You’ll need to phone them with information about the purchase. They will be able to tell you all the details, but often a new set of wheels does result in a change in rates.

One additional word of advice: We would contact a rep before buying your car. The last thing anyone needs with such a sassy new cruiser is a ticket for driving while uninsured. Most providers can send a temporary card until the official one arrives in the mail.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

2018 nissan sentra for sale kirkland bellevue tacoma washingtonDear Patrick,

My wife and I bought a new Nissan Sentra and are having a friendly $1 bet that you can solve. She claims women pay less for auto insurance than men. I say everything’s equal. Who is right?

-Brandon

Hey Brandon,

Always happy to help settle a little disagreement like this. Brace yourself, but she is correct. More times than not, females have lower premiums than males. Once you finish ponying up the cash, I’ll tell you why. (Take your time!)

No, these companies aren’t being biased. They are simply analyzing statistics. On average, women:

  • Are involved in less wrecks.
  • Get fewer traffic violations, including really serious ones like driving under the influence.
  • Purchase cars that are not as flashy or fast.

So, by those numbers, a high percentage of gals are safer drivers who often choose a practical car. That’s catnip to a risk-averse organization like auto insurance. While not every female motorist falls into these categories, more do than men. Thus, the smaller bills.

So, if you ever want to take a chunk out of your premium, you could do worse than learn a few things from the ladies on the road.

Let me know if there are any other bets I can solve.
