Dear Robert,

Iâ€™ve just bought a new 2018 Nissan Armada. Itâ€™s fantastic having such a big engine and so many entertainment and safety features. But Iâ€™m worried all this will put an excessive strain on the battery. How will I know if itâ€™s dying?

Iâ€™ll start by saying, as long as youâ€™re following the Armadaâ€™s recommended maintenance guidelines, thereâ€™s really nothing to worry about. But below are a few things which would indicate you may have a problem with your battery.

It takes a lot of power to get your Armadaâ€™s engine started: if you hear it cranking slowly when you try to get it running, thereâ€™s a good chance your battery is on its last legs.

In addition to starting your vehicleâ€™s engine, the battery also has to power all of its electrical components. So, if any of these parts start to malfunction, this could also indicate a problem.Â

Finally, if it has shorted or been overcharged your battery may vent gas. This will smell like rotten eggs and come from under the hood of your car. So if you notice this or any of the signs mentioned above, you should call into our Service Department and let our technicians have a look.

Iâ€™m thinking of upgrading my car before the end of the year. Next summer, my family and I will be moving across the country, so I need a vehicle which can haul our stuff. Can you tell me what the towing capacity of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder is?

Of all the vehicles Nissan offer, the PathfinderÂ almost certainly suits your needs the best. This model has a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs, which is astonishing considering itâ€™s a crossover with a single piece frame.

For some reason, many manufacturers have accepted that vehicles with a single piece frame have a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs; if you want to go over this number, youâ€™ll need a truck-based chassis. Well, that was the norm until the Pathfinder raised the bar by 1,000 lbs!

This might not seem like a big deal, but a vehicle with a single piece frame will ride smoother than one of its truck-inspired counterparts. The handling will be better too, and itâ€™ll return more mpg. So, if you opt for this model, you'll have a more practical day-to-day car while still having all the towing capacity you could want.

Iâ€™m thinking of upgrading to the 2018 Nissan Rogue. Since the weather is so cold at the moment, Iâ€™ve been letting my carâ€™s engine run for a few minutes before I set off. So, Iâ€™m just wondering if this model has a remote start option.

Well done to you for braving the elements each morning! Iâ€™m sure your carâ€™s engine appreciates the warm up. The 2018 Rogue is a great model and youâ€™ll be happy to know there is a remote start option available.

To use this function, you first press the lock key and then hold the â€˜engine startâ€™ button for at least two seconds. After this, the car will run for 10 minutes and then switch off automatically. This system can turn on the vehicleâ€™s heaters too, so you wonâ€™t have to fight the cold off for longer than necessary.

Using the remote start function is also useful in summer, as you can kick up the A/C before entering the car. So, no matter how harsh the weather is outside, the climate will always be perfect in your Rogue.

Iâ€™m just after picking up a new 2018 Nissan Versa and couldnâ€™t be happier. I have to be honest and say Iâ€™ve never taken very good care of my cars before, but they seemed to run just fine. My father always tells me to keep my engine oil topped up, but what would happen if I ran out?

Well, Iâ€™m happy to hear your lack of maintenance hasnâ€™t caused you any serious problems before. But the Nissan Versa is a great model, so letâ€™s try to look after it. The oil in your engine is what keeps the fast moving parts sliding smoothly instead of grinding against each other.

If your oil gets seriously low these parts will produce extreme heat as they rub off each other. Eventually, these components will fuse together, resulting in a seized engine.

Generally speaking, seized engines aren't cheap to fix. There's also the possibility that the damage will be irreparable, meaning youâ€™ll need to get a replacement. Either way, this type of issue produces a considerable bill.

You should get your car serviced at the recommended intervals: this will help ensure none of your liquids get too low. If the oil warning light comes on in your Versa between visits to the shop, you'll need to top up the engine as soon as possible.

Knowing what action to take when your car overheats is extremely important. If you donâ€™t follow the correct procedure, this is something which could not only damage your Nissan Sentra but physically harm you too.

If your vehicle overheats, itâ€™s important to find a safe place to pull over within a quarter of a mile. Driving any further with your car in this condition could cause your cylinder head to warp and, ultimately, result in gasket failure.

The most crucial thing to remember is not toÂ go near the hood while the car is this hot. You could easily burn yourself off your engine's components or the steam radiating from it. My advice would be to call a mechanic and get your vehicle towed to your local garage as soon as possible.
