Hi Robert,
I’ve been getting a burning smell from my 2018 Nissan Sentra’s brakes recently and it’s worrying me. Do you have any idea what could cause this?
Thanks,
Peter
Hi, Peter!
There are a few reasons your 2018 Nissan Sentra’s brakes could give off a burning smell. This may be down to a mechanical issue or the way you’re driving.
If a caliper has seized, it could cause one of the pistons to stick on and drag against the rotor. This creates extreme heat and is like driving with one of your brakes constantly applied.
It could be down to you braking very hard or often while you’re driving. This is especially something to consider if you regularly ride down steep hills and use the pedal to keep your vehicle at a steady speed.
Finally, one of the most common reasons you would get the smell of burning is if you’re riding the brake while driving. This happens more often when people leave their left foot hovering over the pedal, so be mindful of this.
Thanks for your question, Peter! Please don’t hesitate to contact Kirkland Nissan, Washington again if you need anything else.
