As the result of a gradual merger between multiple companies, Nissan started in 1914 in Japan. Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama and Meitaro Takeuchi of Kaishinsha Motorcar Works decided to build a car. Calling this new vehicle DAT, an acronym of their surnames, they were quite pleased with their invention. The engine only produced 10 horsepower, but it paved the road for the next 100 years of innovative automobiles.

The same year, the creators joined hands with Lila Company and began manufacturing trucks. This opened up a whole new line of production. In 1919, the Jitsuyo Jidosha Company teamed up with the original makers and formed Dat Jidosha Seizo Co. A mere 18 years later, they released the DATSUN.

This compact vehicle was powered by a smaller 450cc motor and quickly became popular around the country. Variations of this famous model are still made, but youâ€™ll have to go to India to get one.Â
