Who says you need two pedals to drive? Nissan certainly doesn’t believe so, as they’ve pioneered “e-Pedal” technology on the 2019 LEAF—a system that enables the all-electric vehicle to be fully operated with only one pedal.

So, here’s the scoop, Seattle: the e-Pedal lets you both accelerate and brake the LEAF with only one pedal, eschewing the conventional setup. While fully optional in this year’s Nissan EV, it lets the driver press down on the e-Pedal to gradually accelerate; conversely, easing up on the pedal enables you to slow the car down. When you remove your foot altogether, the car’s regenerative brakes kick in and a full stop is completed.


With the 2019 LEAF’s e-Pedal, the brake lamps turn on whenever pressure on the pedal is released. The e-Pedal can also stop a car while on an incline and is compatible with parallel parking situations. As a result of its design, it promotes enhanced driving range and longer-lasting brake pads.

Welcome back to our feature spotlight section, Kirkland! Today, we want to cover the amazing transmission inside the 2019 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo and the capabilities it lends owners.



Okay, you may have heard that many of Nissan’s modern vehicles come with something called a CVT. This stands for “continuously variable transmission” and means that any machine equipped with it benefits from super-smooth shifting thanks to effectively unlimited “gear ratios.” In fact, it’s smoother than even a traditional automatic! But with that said, what happens when you just want to have some plain ‘ole fun?


Well, the 2019 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo comes with a CVT that’s imbued with a manual shift mode. You can slide the shifter into the Ds position and then manually move it up and down to switch gears, mimicking “stick” shifting! This is fantastic for anyone that likes to go hands on. This SUV is packed with intelligent cruise control. Like with forward collision warning, this system uses sensors to take traditional cruise control to the next level. If the car in front of you slows down, the technology uses “gap management” to keep a set distance between you and that vehicle by autonomously dropping or raising your cruising speed to match it. And even if you don’t have this feature activated, if things get hairy and you get too close, automatic emergency braking takes over and helps you avoid a collision.


The 2019 Nissan Armada also comes with rear door alert. It’s easy to place something in the back seat, get started on your journey, and then forget about it upon your arrival. The Nissan LEAF is an amazing machine in many regards. It’s fun to drive and, seeing as it’s all-electric, is wildly efficient. However, there are other sensational technologies on the 2019 model that are worth a close examination. Among these is the incredible e-Pedal technology.

The 2019 Nissan LEAF’s e-Pedal is a system that enables the use of driving with only one pedal as opposed to relying on two (the standard accelerator and brake pedals). This optional method of control lets you press down on the e-Pedal to gradually accelerate; conversely, if you release the pressure you’ll slow the car down. If you completely remove your foot from the e-Pedal, the regenerative brakes will fully kick in and the resulting friction will cause a complete stop.


With the LEAF's e-Pedal, the brake lights flick on every time you begin to release pressure, just as you’d expect. It’s possible to parallel park using only this one-pedal system; further, the e-Pedal is capable of stopping the car on an incline, too.
