With the big debut of the 2019 Altima at the New York Auto Show, all eyes are on Nissan as excitement grows for the automakerâ€™s upcoming vehicle lines â€“ especially their sedans. Industry watchers are a-buzz with chatter about an all-new Sentra making its way to the market next year â€“ and now, it sounds like a strong possibility.

In a recent interview with Roadshow, Michael Bunce, Nissan North Americaâ€™s VP of Product Planning, confirmed the company is already working on the next-generation sedan. "[The Sentra is] probably the vehicle where we have the most opportunity," he added, saying we'll see the new compact sedan sometime next year. "We have a lot of ground to make up there."

Little details â€“ if any â€“ are available about the anticipated 2019 Nissan Sentra, but with the recent launch of the re-designed Altima, one can hypothesize that it will carry over some of its most popular features, like its all-wheel drivetrain, sharp new look inspired by the Vmotion 2.0 concept, and a re-worked powerplant under the hood. Speculators also expect that the size of the Sentra will decrease, making it even more nimble and fuel-efficient than it already is.

The Sentra continues to be one of Nissan's top sellers and most recognized nameplates. It's a mainstay in the compact sedan segment spanning more than 35 years and seven generations. And, now, the 2018 Sentra is back, but with a number of enhancements designed to up its already strong consumer appeal, including a host of new safety technologies.

This includes Automatic Emergency Braking, which is now standard on all 2018 Sentra models equipped with Xtronic transmission. AEB uses radar technology to monitor a vehicle's proximity to traffic up ahead, providing audible and visual display warnings to help a driver reduce the car's speed if a potential frontal collision is detected. If the driver fails to respond, the AEB system can apply the brakes, helping to avoid the accident or reduce the speed of impact, if it is unavoidable.Â

In addition to AEB, the Sentra also comes equipped with standard safety and security features, including the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS). This provides drivers and passengers alike with a host of airbags and rollover sensors for extra front, side and head protection in the event of a crash. With 2017 drawing to a close, weâ€™re starting to welcome new 2018 model year vehicles into our inventory, like the highly-anticipated Nissan Sentra. This compact sedan is a favorite amongst Seattle drivers, as it appeals to a wide range of tastes and budgets. And like you, we canâ€™t wait to take it for a spin!Â

For 2018, the Sentra will be offered in six trim levels: S, SV, SR, SL, SR Turbo and NISMO. All are available with Nissanâ€™s Xtronic automatic transmission, but the S, SR Turbo and NISMO do come standard with six-speed manual transmission.

As for pricing, the Sentra remains an affordable choice for new car shoppers. It starts at $16,900 MSRP for a base S and works its way up to $25,790 MSRP for the top-tier NISMO.
