While the Nissan 370Z is well-known on the road and track, it has a long history in the automotive industry, going back more than 45 years to the arrival of the original Datsun 240Z, which today's coupe is inspired by. The iconic shape, formed by the combination of a short wheelbase, wide track, low center of gravity and fluid silhouette, is as instantly recognizable now as it was in the 1970s.

In fact, if you were to compare both models side-by-side, you would be able to spot 240Z styling cues in the 370Z, like the coupe's sleek aerodynamic shape, dramatic cantilevered roof and low stance. The car's profile is also defined by its upswept quarter window design that is echoed by the dynamic upward curvature in the lower rocker panel, just like its predecessor. You can't get more iconic 240Z styling than that.

But, with time comes progress and the 370Z is no exception. Take the 2016 base coupe as an example. This model year incorporates High-Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional xenon headlights with an auto on/off feature with LED daytime running lamps as standard equipment. The exterior is also enhanced by the integration of the boomerang taillights and wide, flared fenders, while the rear fascia is accented by a red center reflector. Its engineering is more advanced too, with a light and highly rigid structure designed for enhanced performance, which today's drivers demand on the road and track.
