Special Events & Celebrations

First Place BCWoven throughout the Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships, special events are planned to highlight:

~ the premier standard of National Competition

~ the greatest respect for Coaches and Officials

~ the highest esteem for Canadian Volunteers

~ the respected diversity of Canada’s multiculturalism

~ fun and enlightenment for Canada’s Youth Athletes

~ the scared honouring of Veterans and Canada’s Military

Community Parades

During the months of May and June, young athletes from local track & field clubs will participate in Fraser Valley community parades to promote the Championships.

Opening Ceremonies

Colour Parties, Pipes and Drums and all the grandeur of an official Opening Ceremony will welcome the young athletes as they rightly deserve.

Daily Medal Presentations

The daily medal presentations will follow the theme of “Honour, Spirit, Remembrance” as Veterans award the young athletes for their competitive wins.

National Peacekeepers Day Tribute
Langley Commemorative Arboretum, “A Walk to Remember”


A small group of youth athletes will escort Veteran Peacekeepers to the Langley Derek Doubleday Arboretum for a commemorative ceremony with the “Langley Youth for the Fallen”. The youth athletes will donate a tree to be planted in honour of 158 Canadian Fallen from the Afghanistan War.

60th Anniversary Korean War Armistice

Several special events will be planned in honour of this military milestone. Youth athletes will participate with Veterans in Acts of Remembrance.

Closing Ceremony ~ Candlelight Tribute

A special Candlelight Tribute will be planned with Veterans and youth athletes, symbolically passing the Torch of Remembrance. A replica National War Memorial will
be on display and used for some of the ceremonies.

Cultural Experiences

Cultural performances will be planned for the youth athletes to experience the diversity of the hosting Province which will include: Chinese Lion Dance; Bhangra Dance;
Aboriginal Performance and Salmon BBq at Fort Langley.

Athletes’ Tour Day & Dances

Local youth from surrounding track & field clubs will escort the youth athletes on a day tour to include a trip to Cultus Lake. Two on campus dances are also planned for fun and entertainment following the national competitions.

Appreciation Receptions

Special receptions are planned for Coaches, Officials, Chaperones and Volunteers to express gratitude for their dedicated commitment to youth track & field.

Closing Ceremonies/Banquet

During the closing ceremonies and banquet, special awards will be made to the top female and male athletes. Each provincial team also makes a presentation describing their experience at the Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships.
