The Nissan manufacturing plant in Smyrna, Tennessee has been steadily producing vehicles for the Japanese automaker for the last 35 years. Since 1992, this factory has built over 4.6 million mid-size sedans and has recently been retooled to create the second-generation Leaf.
Nissan is partnering with Dongfeng Motor to bring 20 all-new electrified vehicles to China. In this joint-venture known as Electrek, the Japanese automaker is hard at work designing innovative EV’s. They are also developing e-POWER powertrains which function like hybrids with a gas generator and a battery pack. These specific models will not need to be plugged in to charge. The goal of this enterprise is the help lower carbon dioxide emissions in Asia.
