The 2026 RAV4 is an all-new generation of Toyota's compact SUV, and the gas-only model is gone. The hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System and 236 net hp, and every RAV4 hybrid sold in Canada is assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC). The plug-in hybrid makes 324 net hp with an estimated 80 km (50 mi) of electric range. All-wheel drive is standard on every Canadian RAV4. Trims come in Core, Sport and Rugged styles, from the LE hybrid at $37,500 to the XSE Technology plug-in hybrid at $59,350, according to Toyota Canada. Figures not in Toyota Canada's releases come from Zack and Andrea Spencer's MotorMouth review notes; measurements published in inches, cubic feet and pounds are converted to metric.

What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions RAV4 shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 9,213 RAV4 comments posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

What is new for 2026?

Styling comes up in 1,756 comments. The 2026 RAV4 is all-new, offered only as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, with standard all-wheel drive in Canada. Toyota Canada says every RAV4 hybrid sold here is assembled at TMMC. Dimensions are very close to the outgoing model with the same wheelbase, and trims come in three styles: Core, the sportier Sport trims including the first RAV4 GR SPORT, and the Rugged Woodland with all-terrain tires and RIGID Industries LED fog lamps, according to MotorMouth's review notes. One owner wrote: "Love my 2026 RAV4. Best purchase I could have made this year."

02

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 2,208 comments. Toyota Canada lists the 2026 RAV4 hybrid from $37,500 for the LE to $52,450 for the XSE Technology, and the plug-in hybrid from $48,750 for the SE to $59,350 for the XSE Technology. Toyota Canada's estimated vehicle price for the LE is $41,158, including freight, PDI, the A/C charge and maximum dealer and other fees, before taxes and licence.

Take this to your test drive

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees in writing, and confirm whether the federal EV rebate MotorMouth's notes mention for the plug-in hybrid SE applies when you buy.

03

Hybrid or plug-in hybrid?

Hybrid and electric power come up in 2,454 comments. The hybrid has 236 net hp and never needs plugging in. The plug-in hybrid has 324 net hp and an estimated 80 km (50 mi) of electric range, according to Toyota Canada, and can drive in EV mode at up to 140 km/h (87 mph), according to MotorMouth's review notes. The XSE Technology plug-in hybrid adds an 11 kW charger and DC fast charging. An Edmonton owner wrote: "I bought the 2026 Rav4 XSE plug-in hybrid. I bought this on May 15. Its now june 15 and im on the same gas the dealership gave me when I bought it. I live in Edmonton so we drive a lot."

Work out how far you drive on a typical day; if most days fit inside the electric range and you can charge at home, price the plug-in hybrid alongside the hybrid.

04

How much fuel does it use?

Fuel economy comes up in 527 comments. Natural Resources Canada rates the 2026 RAV4 hybrid LE at 5.1 L/100 km (46 mpg US) city, 6.0 L/100 km (39 mpg US) highway and 5.5 L/100 km (43 mpg US) combined, and the Woodland with all-terrain tires at 6.2 L/100 km (38 mpg US) combined. Zack and Andrea averaged 5.9 L/100 km (40 mpg US) combined driving the hybrid, according to MotorMouth's review notes. An XLE owner wrote: "I have had the RAV4 XLE for over a couple of months now and it has been fantastic. When I am driving conservatively, the vehicle is getting 3.9 L/100 km."

05

How does it drive?

Engine and power come up in 819 comments. Zack and Andrea note that Toyota increased structural rigidity for better ride comfort and handling, and lowered cabin noise and vibration. The GR SPORT plug-in hybrid adds a GR-tuned sport suspension with performance dampers, 20-inch wheels and paddle shifters, according to Toyota Canada. A Limited owner wrote: "I bought a 2026 RAV4 Limited Hybrid and am very happy with the fuel economy, ride, handling, technology, and smooth transitions from EV to gasoline."

Drive a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid on the same route, and notice how smoothly each one switches between electric and gas power.

06

Is it big enough for my family?
