The CX-90 is Mazda's largest SUV, with seating for seven or eight. The MHEV models use a 3.3-litre turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, rated at 280 hp and 332 lb-ft, or up to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft on premium fuel in the GT-P. The PHEV pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with an electric motor and battery for an estimated 42 km (26 mi) of electric driving. Every CX-90 has an eight-speed automatic and i-Activ all-wheel drive. Canadian pricing runs from $47,100 for the MHEV GS to $69,650 for the PHEV Signature. Space figures come from Zack and Andrea Spencer's MotorMouth review notes and are converted from inches and cubic feet; prices and equipment are from Mazda Canada.

What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions CX-90 shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 4,389 CX-90 comments posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

Mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid?

Hybrid and plug-in power come up in 690 comments. The MHEV models pair the turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The PHEV adds a plug-in battery that Mazda Canada estimates gives about 42 km (26 mi) of electric-only driving, with an EV mode that runs on electric power for as long as conditions allow. Mazda Canada says the PHEV GS qualifies for federal EV incentives of up to $2,500.

Map your daily round trip against the electric range, and ask about home charging before you choose the PHEV.

02

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 597 comments. Mazda Canada lists the 2026 CX-90 MHEV from $47,100 for the GS to $63,650 for the Signature. In June 2026 Mazda Canada set the PHEV GS at $49,999, with the PHEV GS-L at $57,750, GT at $62,350 and Signature at $69,650. Freight and PDE add $2,195.

Take this to your test drive

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees, and confirm which federal incentives apply to the PHEV trim you choose.

03

How much room is in the third row?

Space, cargo and seating come up in 358 comments. MotorMouth's review notes list 772 mm (30.4 in) of third-row legroom and 422 L (14.9 cu ft) of cargo space behind the third row, 2,101 L (74.2 cu ft) overall. Most trims offer a second-row bench for eight seats or captain's chairs for seven, and for 2026 the top Signature trim seats seven. A plug-in hybrid owner wrote: "This vehicle is great. I have a phev 2025 GT and it's great with the family. Captain Seats are a winner with my kids."

Take this to your test drive

Bring car seats and try the third row with the second row set where your family would use it, then compare a bench with captain's chairs.

04

Which engine should I choose?

Engine and power come up in 461 comments and the transmission in 209. The inline-six makes 280 hp and 332 lb-ft on regular fuel, and the GT-P version makes up to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft on premium fuel, 319 hp on regular. MotorMouth's review notes explain that the eight-speed automatic uses a wet clutch in place of a torque converter for a sharper shift feel, and that Mazda has kept refining it with software updates.

Drive the standard and GT-P engines on the same route, including stop-and-go traffic and a highway merge.

05

Can it tow, and is it ready for winter?

Towing comes up in 82 comments and winter driving in 90. Every CX-90 has i-Activ all-wheel drive. With Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories, MHEV models from the GS-L up can tow up to 5,000 lb (2,268 kg), with a Towing mode added to the drive modes, and the PHEV can tow up to 3,500 lb (1,588 kg). Mazda Canada's 2026 updates add winter features across the trims, such as a heated steering wheel, wiper de-icer and heated second-row seats.

Bring the weight of your trailer, ask which hitch and wiring come with the trim, and budget for winter tires.

06

What tech and comfort come with it?

Interior and tech come up in 841 comments. Amazon Alexa voice commands are standard for 2026. The GS-L moves to a 12.3-inch centre display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the GT adds leather, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats and 12-speaker Bose audio, and the Signature brings Nappa leather, maple wood accents, ventilated captain's chairs and a 360-degree camera.

Sit in a GT and a Signature to compare the seats and trim, and pair your phone on the test drive.

07

Does the design stand out?

Styling comes up in 803 comments, and plenty of viewers are fans. Ground clearance is up to 203 mm (8.0 in), MotorMouth's review notes say, with 19-inch wheels standard and 21-inch wheels available. One viewer wrote: "Mazda SUVs are the best looking. I really like this CX 90"

08

How does it drive?

MotorMouth's review notes describe a more dynamic drive than most three-row SUVs, with firmer suspension and heavier steering, and Mazda says the CX-90 was designed with the driver in mind. Fuel economy comes up in 152 comments: Natural Resources Canada rates the standard MHEV at 9.4 L/100 km (25 mpg US) combined. A buyer wrote: "Love the ride on this car. It is a big vehicle, but is still tight."
