What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions Forester shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 3,448 comments on MotorMouth's Forester videos posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

What do you think of the design?

Styling is the biggest theme by far, raised in 836 comments. The current Forester keeps its rugged look and large windows, with a bold grille that merges into the LED headlamps and functional aerodynamic changes, including an air outlet behind the front wheel opening that reduces lift for better stability. The Sport trim has bronze accents and bronze 19-inch wheels. One viewer summed up what they like: "Forester design of doors, greenhouse glass, reliability, love it. Winter performance exceptional."

See it in daylight in the colour you want, and sit in the back to judge the view out of the large windows.

02

Should I get the hybrid?

Hybrid power comes up in 696 comments. In Canada the hybrid comes as one fully loaded trim, the Hybrid Premier at $48,695 MSRP, $3,000 more than the gas Premier. It pairs the 2.5-litre BOXER with a 1.1 kWh battery for 194 total system hp and 199 lb-ft. Zack and Andrea recommend it over the gas model, saying the power is good even when passing on the highway. A Forester Hybrid owner explained the choice: "I bought the Forester Hybrid because of the AWD system and above all, the visibility."

Take this to your test drive

Drive the gas Premier and the Hybrid Premier back to back, including a highway pass, and compare the price gap with your yearly kilometres.

03

Is the gas engine powerful enough?

Engine and power come up in 518 comments, and the CVT in 232. The gas Forester has a 2.5-litre BOXER with 180 hp and 178 lb-ft. The hybrid adds more low-end pull, with 199 lb-ft, and Zack and Andrea say its powertrain does not feel like it is working hard when passing.

Take this to your test drive

Take the gas model up a highway on-ramp with passengers aboard, and try a pass on a two-lane road before you choose.

04

What tech comes with it?

Interior and tech come up in 444 comments. An 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available, and a hands-free power liftgate with kick sensor is a first for the Forester. The Hybrid Premier adds a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charger and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon system.

Pair your phone, try the climate and seat controls on the 11.6-inch screen while parked, and ask the dealer to show you EyeSight on the highway.

05

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 435 comments. Subaru Canada prices the 2026 Forester at $34,195 for the Convenience, $39,195 for the Touring, $41,695 for the Sport, $43,695 for the Limited and $45,695 for the Premier. The Hybrid Premier is $48,695 MSRP. A 2026 buyer reported back: "I bought a Subaru Forester Limited 2026 in May and I really like it."

Take this to your test drive

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees, and list the features you want to see which trim includes them.

06

How does it handle winter?

All-wheel drive and winter driving come up in 190 comments. Every Forester has Symmetrical Full-Time AWD with X-MODE and Hill Descent Control, and ground clearance is 221 mm (8.7 in). An Ontario owner wrote: "Our 2025 Forester is phenomenal. The full-time AWD is amazing here in snowy Orangeville, Ontario."

Take this to your test drive

Budget for winter tires, and ask whether the trim you want has a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats.

07

How much fuel does it use?

Fuel economy comes up in 171 comments. Natural Resources Canada rates the 2026 gas Forester at 9.1 L/100 km (26 mpg US) city, 7.2 L/100 km (33 mpg US) highway and 8.3 L/100 km (28 mpg US) combined. The hybrid is rated at 6.8 L/100 km (35 mpg US) city, 7.0 L/100 km (34 mpg US) highway and 6.9 L/100 km (34 mpg US) combined.

Reset the trip computer at the start of your test drive and include some highway driving to see the figure on your own route.

08

Is it big enough, and can it tow?

Space, cargo and rear seats come up in 116 comments and towing in 88. MotorMouth's Forester Hybrid notes list 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of front legroom and 1,001 mm (39.4 in) in the rear, with 779 L (27.5 cu ft) of cargo space behind the rear seat and 1,957 L (69.1 cu ft) overall in the hybrid. The gas and hybrid models can tow 1,500 lb (680 kg). Subaru Canada also announced a 2026 Forester Wilderness rated to tow up to 3,500 lb (1,588 kg); it is not listed on the current Canadian Forester pricing page.

Bring car seats and your usual cargo, and if you need more towing capacity, ask the dealer whether a Forester Wilderness is available.
