Every modern vehicle now comes with an auxiliary input jack. Although they are not used as much these days thanks to hands-free technology such as Bluetooth and wireless smartphone integration systems, this feature allows you to connect a mobile device to the vehicle’s infotainment centre.
It is compatible with many different types of media players, and it can sometimes be referred to as the RCA jack. Other terms that may apply include USB ports, 1/8-inch TRS plug, infrared, A2DP, and even Bluetooth. Most commonly, the auxiliary input jack is used to connect something like an iPod to the entertainment system. In other words, you can stream music directly through the stereo.
This type of audio auxiliary is the most well known. However, the term auxiliary alone can refer to other optional parts that supplemental an already existing system. These can include the secondary gas tank, engine cooler, or even the transmission cooler. Finally, auxiliary lighting refers to the LED or halogen lamp that is used to light up specific areas (not the headliner) inside the car, truck, van, or SUV. This can be in the footwell or glovebox.
