The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is one of the few mini-vans to offer available all-wheel drive. Not only is this option rare for its class, but the state-of-the-art system can adjust to provide the best possible traction in all scenarios. When AWD is not necessary, the Pacifica stops the driveshaft from spinning, which effectively switches the system to FWD and increases fuel efficiency. In low-traction situations, however, onboard sensors detect slippage. They then apply the brakes to the sliding tires and send the torque to stable wheels so that they can help the driver retain control.Â
The AWD system will kick in on wet roads, sand, ice, snow, or gravel. It also activates if the temperature drops to below 4 degrees C or when the sensors detect the vehicle moving up or down a steep incline.
