Sport fishing is the driving force of Costa Rica’s economy. Travelers race to its golden shores and deep waters, wanting to sample the endless Marlins, Roosterfish and Dorados. Every day is shaped by charter tours and tackle debates.
Anglers without valid fishing licenses, however, will find themselves unable to enjoy any of it.
Those visiting Los Suenos can’t simply head toward the surf. They must instead secure fishing licenses. These prove that anglers can participate in deep sea or inshore activities. They also show that tourists understand the country’s catch-and-release policies and sustainability laws. They are non-negotiable.
They are also valid only for a month.
Sport fishermen must renew their licenses every month in Los Suenos. Refusing to do so results in penalties, as well as an inability to board charter ships. Be certain to apply for a certificate at the Instituto Costarricense de Pesca y Acuicultura (INCOPESCA) Agency, located at the marina.
