The Blue Marlin is a favorite of anglers. Bold coloring and a muscular body makes it easy to spy among Los Suenos’ dark waters, and travelers from across the globe arrive each year to chase it.
Though this fish has recently been given catch-and-release protection (an effort led by President Laura Chinchilla to promote sustainable tourism), it still represents one of the most popular breeds in the Central Pacific. Its sporting quality profile proves why.
Strength
The Blue Marlin is massive, often weighing close to 600 pounds. This ensures intense strength and power, effortlessly snapping even medium-tackle options.
Speed
The Blue Marlin can achieve speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. It can’t maintain these levels for extended periods, however, and is considered a sprinter.
Movements
The Blue Marlin will fight on the line - viciously and vigorously. Expect many leaps and lunges.
Capturing a Blue Marlin proves difficult for even experienced sport fishermen. Anticipate lengthy battles and prepare with top-shelf tackle. Utilize a fighting chair if possible to reduce exhaustion and provide better balance.
