Troll lines are often seen in Los Suenos. They’re staggered behind charter ships, dragging live bait through the currents and leaving heady blood trails in their wake. This allows anglers to more efficiently lure large-game breeds to the surface.

The success of trolling lines, however, relies on their positions. Casting them properly behind every ship ensures optimal coverage and greater depth reach. Calculating that distance too often proves confusing for anglers, though, and few are certain how far to space each cable.

The length of a trolling line should correspond with the power, performance and downrigging capabilities of each ship. Smaller charters, such as Express Boats or Center Console Boats, are more limited in their capacities. Lines should, therefore, extend no more than 50 feet. This will ensure smooth reel-ins.

Larger charters, such as Full Size Boats or Sport Yachts, boast greater strength. They can support longer lines, providing more stable downrigs and even paravine technology. Consider casting these cables up to 150 feet.
