Inshore anglers are well-acquainted with Permits. These slim-boned fish hide along the shelves, using their forked tails to burrow beneath the sand and salt. They’re difficult to catch, retreating often at the first signs of danger and refusing to come to the surface.
Having the right bait, therefore, is essential. Costa Rica Fishing Adventures recommends these options.
Live Bait
Permits are cautious. They will only attack fish smaller than themselves and they’ll wait for the perfect moment to pounce. Choose oily options, like Shrimps and Crabs, to draw them out and keep them interested.
Artificial Bait
Permits don’t respond well to artificial bait. Those using barrel swivels and slip sinkers can catch these fish, though, if the items are boldly colored and have sharp movements. Light spinning tackle is recommended.
