The Horse Eye Trevally is an unmistakable breed. Its compressed body, exposed teeth and namesake eyes - which are large and rounded, with transparent lids creating a milky coloring - mark it as unique. It’s often sought by inshore anglers and is noted as one of Los Suenos’ more popular catch-and-release options.
Before setting sail to find it, however, fishermen should find the perfect bait.
Live Bait
The Horse Eye Trevally is a cautious breed. It approaches its prey slowly, attacking only when it feels safe and often fleeing at the first sign of trouble. Choose small baiting options, such as Shrimps or Sardines, to draw it out and keep it from panicking.
Artificial Bait
The Horse Eye Trevally will respond to artificial bait, as long as it seems innocuous. Choose bibbed lures and soft-skirted jigs to catch this fish’s attention. Be wary of items that move too quickly or make too much noise.
