Heavy tackle is recommended, therefore, for those in Los Suenos. Deep sea expeditions - specifically those centered around Blue Marlins, Black Marlins or Sailfish - require strong lures and long lines.

A heavy rod offers both.

Heavy rods are noted for their fiberglass compositions and sturdy shapes. This allows them to endure the pull of both the Pacific and Costa Rica's stouter breeds. Their extended lures and fast actions provide easy reel-ins, and their flexible tips help to reduce tension during lengthy battles. They are less likely to break under the weight of Billfish and provide greater balance. This makes them ideal for sport fishing.

It should be noted that these rods are aptly named. They are heavy. Inexperienced anglers may have some difficulty mastering them and should rely on charter crews for help.
