The most important feature of a Los Suenos fish is not its size, teeth or color. Its fins instead reign supreme.
These spiny-boned limbs propel every Marlin, Sailfish and Permit through the water. They allow them to fight against the line, and they directly impact speed and stamina. They make sport fishing both exciting and frustrating.
Anglers should, therefore, learn their names.
Pectoral Fins: fins found on the side of each fish, allowing them to move quickly through the water at even great depths.
Pelvic Fins: fins located beneath the pectorals that control a fish’s range of motion, specifically upward and downward movements.
Dorsal Fins: fins that rest along the spine, effecting a fish’s ability to turn.
Anal Fins: fins found just beneath the anus, controlling stability and balance.
Caudal Fins: fins that serve as the tail, providing the main source of propulsion.
A Los Suenos fish uses all of these fins to navigate the Pacific. Anglers should take note of each limb to better understand how these breeds move and how powerful they’ll prove to be.
