Los Suenos fish are regarded as extraordinary. Their colors, patterns and striations rank among the best in the world; and the sheer variety of scale designs makes every charter trip a unique experience.
It’s important, therefore, to understand the types of scales found on Los Suenos fish. To properly admire them anglers should learn why they look the way they do.
Placoid: Placoids are plate-like formations, with rough edges and dentin textures. They are most commonly seen on Sharks and Skates.

Ganoid: Ganoids are diamond-shaped scales that connect through intricate socketing. They are most commonly found on Gars and Sturgeons.

Cycloid: Cycloids are flat, oval-shaped scales that feature growth rings (circular patterns that spiral out from the head to the tail). They are most commonly seen on Salmon and Carps.

Ctenoid: Ctenoids are calcium-composed scales that also feature growth rings (although their edges are rougher than Cycloids). They are most commonly found on Rays and Perches.
