los suenos fish gillsThe anatomy of every Los Suenos fish is defined by spiny bones and cartilage. Every organ works to propel these creatures through the water.

Without gill filaments, however, those organs wouldn’t be able properly function.

Gill filaments, simply explained, are protein chains within a fish’s throat. They contain a network of capillaries and blood vessels, which allow Marlins, Mackerels and more to survive while underwater. They carefully separate oxygen from carbon dioxide, sending essential gasses to the gills and expelling any unnecessary ions. This is known as scaffolding, referring to how it builds the foundation of the breathing process.

Without gill filaments a Los Suenos fish would not be able to function in the water. These chains help to support healthy lung capacities, as well as impact the nervous and circulatory systems. They are essential.

Those taking an edible charter tour will be able to see these filaments once their catches are cut open. Examine the throat to find a vast network.
