Subject: What Is The Weberian Apparatus?

los suenos fish hearingSilence isn’t merely golden in Los Suenos. It’s essential - because the Weberian Apparatus allows fish to sense even the faintest sounds underwater, leading them away from hooks, lines and reels.

The Weberian Apparatus is a series of small bones tucked behind a fish’s skull. These bones connect the inner ear to the swim bladder, tunneling vibrations through the body. This allows every Minnow, Mackerel and Loach to hear underwater; and too often it is the reason an angler will find himself unable to snag a catch.

Marine creatures are extremely sensitive to sound, with the Weberian Apparatus allowing them to distinguish unique vibrations from miles away. It’s recommended, therefore, to remain as quiet as possible while on a charter trip. Reduce engine noise and be cautious when casting lines. Limit conversation whenever possible and refrain from loud music. This will promote more effective fishing.
