fish caudal keelNavigating the Los Suenos shoreline can often prove difficult. It’s a collection of high waves and coral reefs, with rocks and sandy dunes shoved in between. Anglers must find the safest path to travel, and fish are no different.

It’s why they have caudal keels.

Caudal keels are scute-composed finlets placed atop a fish. They stand in lateral lines and serve as rudders underwater. Their strong bones and rigid textures allow them to push through the waves, providing exceptional balance and turning. Without them many Los Suenos breeds would be unable to move between the currents.

They also wouldn’t be able to provide much resistance on the line. Caudal keels directly impact a fish’s speed and agility, making every reel-in exciting. Anglers should recognize the importance of these fins whenever they battle a Marlin, Snook or Rainbow Runner. Without them every charter trip would be exceedingly dull.
