electroreception in fishElectrical waves define the Los Suenos shoreline. Charges and stimuli can be found in every current, mapping the Central Pacific. Anglers are familiar with these energy bursts, utilizing them for radar and weather monitoring.

Certain breeds, like the Lamprey or the Knifefish, use them as well to great advantage. This is known as electroreception.

Electroreception is an essential part of survival for the fish in Los Suenos. Many are born with jelly-filled pores that conduct energy, allowing them to sense even the faintest signals and memorize the ocean floor. These pores, which are connected to clusters of skin within the ampullae, help streamline the hunting process and provide better protection against oncoming threats (such as large predators or ships). They deliver the same results as echolocation or radio detection.

Anglers should be aware of electroreception since it is often the source of their frustrations. If fish seem to consistently flee from a ship, they are most likely sensitive to currents and won’t be trapped. Sailing to another location is recommended to find other, less aware breeds.
