Did you hear the news? August 2018 was among INFINITI’s best months ever in the United States! In large part, this was due to the impressive sales of the 2019 QX50 crossover. As you might know, this vehicle is powered by the world’s first variable compression engine, part of the basis of its appeal. The model had 2,449 deliveries last month, up 79 percent.
Other models in the INFINITI lineup that did remarkably well included the QX80, which saw an increase of 19 percent in August, hitting 1,218 sales for the month. Overall, the automaker enjoyed deliveries of 10,796 vehicles across the nation.

If you’ve been following the new electric car prototype that was unveiled by INFINITI at Pebble Beach recently, you might be interested to know that reviewers are continuing to heap it with praise.
The New York Times has said that this new “Concept 10†relies on some of the best looks and tech from throughout automotive history in a way that can only be described as “vintage future.†The reviewer further suggested that the automobile’s angled hood and sloping rear reminded them of a 1960s era Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto mixed with some sort of race car.

Have you heard the news? The INFINITIQ50 and Q70 both placed among the top models within their segments (sports and luxury sedans, respectively) in the J.D. Power 2018 U.S. Resale Value Awards. In order to calculate who the winners were, 44 vehicles were evaluated using a sample of over 650,000 transactions with an average of 3,500 data points assessed on each. Judges consider used vehicle wholesale prices and divide them by the vehicle’s original purchase price.
According to JD Power, the Q50 “delivers a rewarding driving experience†and offers owners with a variety of innovative powertrain options, including the VR-series 3.0-liter, V6 twin-turbo engine, which was named to Ward’s 10 Best Engines list for two consecutive years.
The 2018 Q50 is filled to the brim with safety features, including electronic stability control and an occupant-sensing airbag. Depending on when you last purchased an INFINITI vehicle, you might not be aware of the new nomenclature the automaker uses to designate its cars and crossovers. In fact, the classification system has changed a bit over time.
Initially, most vehicles in the INFINITI lineup used a letter or two and two numbers. If it was a car, one letter was used, whereas SUVs had two. The numbers described displacement. For instance, a QX56 was a crossover that had a 5.6-liter engine.
Other designations could be used, as well. If there was an "x" after the number, it meant that the auto was an all-wheel drive model. An "s" meant that it was a sport edition, while "h" denoted a hybrid model. If a "d" was used, it meant that the vehicle ran on diesel. Finally, a "t" represented Touring models.
As of 2013, the nomenclature of INFINITI vehicles changed. Now, any autos that have a “Q†are cars, whereas any with a “QX†are crossovers. The numbers that follow these letters represent the location in the automaker’s lineup.

Awhile back, we talked in this column about how INFINITI was going to be using LIDAR technology and its own vehicles to retrace the steps of 1920s explorer Roy Chapman Andrews in the Gobi Desert. You might recall that this famous scientist was the basis of the Indiana Jones story.
A recent update from the field provided colorful details on this amazing tale. The article's author, Steven Ewing, went on the excursion himself and drove a QX80, a powerful crossover. Other new technologies used included drone-powered multispectral and thermal cameras that work wonders for paleontological methodology. Experts, including those who worked with NASA on missions to Mars, came along for the ride.
Impressively, over the 20-day excursion, 35 team members discovered over 250 new fossil locations and hundreds of bones. Some of the mammals they found were not previously known to have existed in the Gobi Desert.
Infiniti provided a fleet for the desert trip, including the 2019 QX50, QX60, and QX80. Much of the driving was off-road, and Ewing loved every minute of it thanks to the comfort of the crossovers.

Though it isn’t yet clear whether this vehicle will be a hybrid or run completely on alternative energy, one thing is certain: it will be a performance automobile like the rest of the lineup.
