As seen in the 2018 Q70, VVEL technology utilizes hydraulic-operated timing processes combined with electronically managed consumption functions to simultaneously improving fuel efficiency while also reducing emissions. For example, thanks to the proprietary mechanics, the brandâ€™s flagship sedan is able to earn an impressive 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.

In a standardÂ engine, air is restricted from entering the intakes for longer intervals. However, a VVEL-equipped powertrain allows air to flow through the wide throttle opening â€” which, unlike other setups, doesnâ€™t close when the driver depresses the pedal. From there, the oxygen is admitted into the combustion chamber at a more precise rate determined by the intake valves. Because the draft sits directly outside the cell, the throttle response is instant.
