You may have noticed that many vehicles in our luxury lineup — such as the 2018 INFINITI QX30 — possess turbocharged engines or, colloquially referred to as “turbo†for short. And if you’re anything like me, you may have assumed that that’s just a decorative descriptor word added to the nomenclature in order to make the ride sound exceptionally fast.
However, it turns out that a turbocharger is actually a legitimate motor device used to increase an internal combustion unit’s efficiency and energy output.Â
Â
Powered by an exhaust-driven turbine, the turbocharger compresses and forces extra air into the combustion chamber. By squeezing more oxygen into a cylinder, it means that more fuel can also be added. The result is a more significant production of force and dynamic HP. Not bad, right?
So, the next time you see that fancy familiar feature used on a spec sheet, you might be more inclined to take the respective ride for a spin.Â
