Challenging the industry status-quo, INFINITI has equipped models across its lineup with a range of world-first technologies. Having debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show as a replacement for the G-line sedan, the Q50 executive car has joined other nameplates with a slew of cutting-edge features - including a self-driving system. The brand’s parent company, Nissan, has been vocal about their plan to have ProPILOT take over the majority of human input by 2020.Â
The 2018 Q50 is the first INFINITI (or Nissan) vehicle to come equipped with the ProPILOT system - a suite of semi-autonomous technologies.
An intricate web of sensors are at the heart of this new system, which (thanks to advanced image-processing functionality) can handle lane changes, navigate through intersections, merge, and even stop to pay required tolls. The 2018 Q50 is equipped with 12 cameras, six laser scanners, 12 sonars, and nine wave radars. Working in conjunction with a HD map, the technology feeds information to an artificial intelligence (AI) hub that analyzes real-time data to operate the vehicle safely without constant driver input.
ProPILOT includes a range of assistance features (like Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Braking, and Predictive Forward Collision Alert), but the Direct Adaptive Steering (the world’s first digital system of its kind) is thought to be the true precursor to fully autonomous driving.
Experience this self-driving innovation for yourself by stopping in and taking the 2018 INFINITI Q50 for a test drive today.Â
