The 2018 Nissan Leaf isn’t even available for purchase on North American soil, but that hasn’t stopped the EV from collecting global awards and accolades prior to its Seattle release. Most recently, the 2018 Leaf was named a “Best Small Family Car” by the Next Green Car Awards 2017, which recognizes the most environmentally friendly vehicles to debut in the United Kingdom over the last 12 months. 
 
Covering eight different categories, the winners are selected from a shortlist of 32 different models across 18 manufacturers. Winning models cover seven vehicle categories and have all been judged against a range of factors, including environmental, performance and cost criteria. Other considerations, such as suitability for purpose, impact on the market, and value for money, are also taken into account.

Ladies and gents, the countdown is on – and it’s not the New Years countdown that you might be thinking of, but rather the highly anticipated arrival of the 2018 Nissan Leaf. New models of this next-gen vehicle will be ready for test driving on North American soil in a matter of weeks. It almost feels like Christmas morning, hearing this news!
 
As we speak, the Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee is cranking out models of the all-new Leaf. They are one of three global facilities producing the EV, along with the Oppama plant in Yokosuka, Japan, and a factory in Sunderland, England.

For Seattle area drivers in search of an all-electric vehicle that handles more like a regular car, the 2015 Nissan Leaf S is a smart, eco-friendly choice. If you haven’t had a chance to test drive one, we have a number of models in our preowned inventory at Kirkland Nissan.
 
The 2015 Leaf is powered by an 80 kW lithium-ion battery and 107-horsepower motor that generates 187 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a 0-to-60-mph sprint in about 10 seconds flat – not bad for an all-electric vehicle. As for charging, the Leaf S is quite speedy – the base 3.6 kW onboard charger takes about eight hours on a 220-volt line, or you can upgrade to the optional 6.6 kW version, which reduces charging to five hours. 
 
The range of the 2015 Leaf S clocks in at 84 miles and earns an EPA city/highway fuel economy equivalent of 126/101 mpge. If you are a short-distance traveler or have access to a charging station while at the office, the Leaf is a fantastic solution for commuters who want to wipe out monthly fuel costs.
 
As for standard features, the S trim comes very well-equipped with Nissan's Intelligent Key system, which allows you to start the car without removing keys from your pocket or purse. It also includes heated front and rear seats, Bluetooth, split folding rear seats, a rear backup camera, a CD player with USB and auxiliary connections, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. Other features include power windows, locks and mirrors, 16-inch steel wheels with full covers, automatic temperature control, a rear defroster and a vehicle security system.
