Kirkland, letâ€™s talk about â€œoverlanding.â€

â€œOverlandingâ€ is outdoor adventuring experienced by individuals willing to endure harsh conditions and traverse extreme terrains. Typically, all such attempts at previousÂ overlanding were accomplished with super expensive, modified trucks and SUVsâ€”however, Nissan felt they could do better. They got to work, and the result of their efforts has led to the â€œDestination Frontier,â€ a one-off truck design that was created for only $40,000.

The designers at Nissan started with a 2019 Frontier Crew Cab SV 4x4 Midnight Edition as a base and then modified accordingly. Changes include the addition of Nitto Trail Grappler off-road tires, American Racing AX201 wheels, a 3-inch Nisstec lift kit, and body/drivetrain protection, among other tweaks.

A little information on that standard 2019 Nissan Frontier that the Destination is based upon (and that can actually be experienced at dealerships nationwide): It comes with a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine that pushes out 261 horses and 281 lb-ft of torque. It can also tow up to 6,720 pounds.

In case you arenâ€™t aware, â€œoverlandingâ€ is a form of outdoor adventuring that has its participants cross extreme terrains and endure wild climate conditions. Traditionally, itâ€™s solely been the domain of uber-expensive modified SUVs and trucksâ€¦ but no longer. Nissanâ€™s â€œDestination Frontierâ€ one-off truck is ridiculously capable for these situationsâ€”and was created for only approximately $40,000.

The Nissan crew began with the 2019 Frontier Crew Cab SV 4x4 Midnight Edition as a base and went from there. Modifications include body/drivetrain protection for off-roading and associated obstacles; improved ground clearance; a 3-inch Nisstec lift kit; and Nitto Trail Grappler off-road tires with American Racing AX201 wheels, among other tweaks.

In its unmodified base form, the 2019 Nissan Frontier offers a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine that cranks out 261 horses and 281 lb-ft of torque. With it, the Frontier can tow up to 6,720 pounds.
