If you’ve been considering an all-electric vehicle as your next commuter, but are concerned about range and ease of charging, allow us to quell your apprehensions with a test drive in a 2016 Nissan Leaf SL. This preowned plug-in is made for Seattle drivers with its 107-mile range and 6.6 kW standard charger.
Â
The Leaf SL is anchored by an 80-kW motor, which uses a 30-kWh lithium-ion battery pack as its source of power. As it takes to city streets and fast-flowing highways, it produces an impressive 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque, which is quite exceptional for a vehicle that doesn’t use traditional fossil fuels. It’s snappy too, reaching 60 mph in just 10.2 seconds.
Â
As mentioned, the SL trim comes equipped with a 6.6 kW charger, which can refresh a depleted battery to 100 percent capacity in about six hours. But, if that’s not fast enough, the Leaf SL is also fitted with a standard Quick Charge Port, which can charge a battery to 80 percent in about 30 minutes when using a CHAdeMO fast charger. Many urban areas are equipped with these public stations, making it easier for drivers to juice up their Leaf while on-the-go.Â
