If you’ve been eyeing an all-electric car as your next vehicle, but worry that you’ll be giving up space and comfort in exchange for gas savings, quell your concerns with a test drive in a preowned 2015 Nissan Leaf S. This hatchback offers ample room for five passengers, along with a host of standard features that promise to keep you content on the road.
Â
But, first, let’s talk efficiency since this is what drew you to an all-electric vehicle in the first place. The 2015 Leaf S is energized by a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which generates the 80-kW electric motor to produce 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. According to The Car Connection, this equates to an EPA mpg equivalent of 114 combined with a battery range of 84 miles. With gas stations now part of your distant past, all you’ll have to do is plug in your Leaf to get juiced up for your travels. With the standard 3.3 kW onboard charger, you’ll be set in about eight hours.
Â
The 2015 Leaf’s hatchback design also lends itself to an extremely roomy interior. Legroom in all rows is outstanding, ringing in at 42.1 inches in the front and 33.3 inches in the rear, while headroom is ample at 41.2 and 37.3 inches, respectively. The seat upholstery is also nice and plush, boasting fabric constructed from recycled soda bottles. On chilly days, you’ll welcome the heated seats and steering wheel, while the Bluetooth connectivity and rearview camera are standard for your convenience. The intelligent key fob also makes entering and exiting the car a cinch.
