If you are seeking a preowned all-electric vehicle that drives more like a regular car, consider purchasing a 2013 Nissan Leaf SV. The U.S. News & World Report gave this plug-in vehicle top marks for its smooth and linear regenerative braking system, which isn’t commonplace for the segment.
Â
The 2013 Leaf is fuelled by an electric motor that produces 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. Power is channelled to the front wheels through a single-speed transmission, allowing the plug-in to reach 60 mph in 10.2 seconds. According to the EPA, the Leaf can travel a full 75 miles on a single charge, which equates to a 129/102 mpg-equivalent. When it’s time to refresh the battery, the SV trim is equipped with an upgraded 6.6-kW onboard charger that requires only four hours when connected to a 220-volt outlet.Â
Â
On the road, the Leaf drives with a calm precision that feels peppy when needed and smooth at cruising speeds. It is also extremely quiet since the powerplant is mated to a single-speed transmission that doesn’t shift. With competent handling and well-weighted steering, you’ll feel like you are driving a traditional car, but without the need for expensive gasoline. The regenerative braking system on the Leaf was also designed with good pedal-feel in mind.
