If you’ve test driven the Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Ioniq and the Honda Clarity, but aren’t convinced you are ready to make the switch to plug-in power, consider the 2019 Nissan Leaf S as your gateway to zero emissions performance. This model is perfect for new EV drivers with its regular car-like performance, solid range and value-rich features.
Â
The 2019 Leaf utilizes a 110-kW electric motor, which produces 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Range now sits in the 150-mile span, thus adding to the EV’s appeal. When it’s time to juice up the battery, the S trim comes standard with a 6.6-kWh charger that refreshes the Leaf in 7.5 hours when using a 220-volt charging station. There is an option to add on a Charge Package, which provides the ability to plug the Leaf into a Level 3 charger to get the battery back up to 80 percent capacity in 40 minutes. That certainly is a nice option to have!
Â
Inside the cabin, the Leaf S is loaded to the gills with impressive standard features, including a rearview camera, keyless entry and start, as well as automatic climate controls. For your comfort, the driver’s seat is height-adjustable and the steering wheel can be tilted. A 5-inch central display houses the Bluetooth system and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio and a USB port. Forward collision warning with automatic braking is also standard for added safety on Seattle’s roads.
