With new advancements in green technology, more and more companies have been developing eco-friendly vehicles for the increasingly environmentally conscious market. At the front of the crowd is the 2015 Nissan Leaf S. Introduced in 2011, this electric car has been upgraded and revamped to appeal to a wider range of consumers.
Powered by an 80-kW electric motor, the Leaf can travel for up to 84 miles and generates 107 horsepower and 187 pound-feet of torque. This year’s version has a more aggressive regenerative braking system that converts the vehicle’s forward momentum into battery energy when the driver releases the accelerator.
The base S trim level comes with 16-inch steel wheels and a 3.6 kW onboard cable for replenishing at charging stations. Heated seats throughout the cabin keep all occupants warm and cozy during the cold winter months. The rearview camera assists with backing out and parallel parking and is displayed on a 4.3-in touchscreen monitor. According to Edmunds, Bluetooth connectivity enables hands-free calling.
