When you think about the Dodge Charger, fuel efficiency probably isn’t the first thing to come to mind. However, the new 2021 R/T trim boasts the highest gasoline rating in the V8 lineup.
Housing a 5.7-litre HEMI engine, this particular model pushes out 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the multi-displacement system and variable valve timing technology, it gets about 14.7 L/100 km (19 mpg) in the city and 9.4 L/100 km (30 mpg) on the highway. You won’t find another V8-powered muscle car with numbers like these.
Mated with RWD for optimized control in sharp corners, the R/T can hit a top speed of 249 km/h (155 mph). While that is slower than the Scat Pack 392 and the SRT Hellcat, you get an even exchange by saving money at the pump.
The R/T trim also boasts an active exhaust system, which employs a pair of electronic valves situated toward the rear of the vehicle to control the output of the exhaust noise. These valves keep sound levels at a minimum when the engine is idling, but as soon as the pedal is put to the metal, the valves open up to release the Charger's fierce roar. Â
