Unfortunately, over time, they can wear out and require replacement – and without properly working spark plugs, internal combustion within the engine is near impossible.

Want to know what to look out for? Here are some spark plug warning signs from our Technicians at St. Paul Dodge in Alberta:

Your truck won't start
If your gas tank is full and your battery is in good working order, but your Ram 1500 won't start, your spark plugs may be the issue. This part is responsible for producing an electric spark to start the ignition and is a simple and inexpensive fix.

Your truck engine misfires
If your Ram 1500's engine misfires, it could be a sign that the spark plug wire is damaged. This is often characterized by sputtering sounds from the engine. If it is left to misfire, exhaust emissions will increase, engine power will decrease, and fuel efficiency will drop.

Your truck gets poor gas mileage
A faulty spark plug is often the reason for inadequate fuel economy in trucks. Simply replacing this part according to your Ram 1500's maintenance schedule will significantly improve gas mileage.

Your truck is slow to accelerate
A spark plug is made of materials that work together to produce a spark hot enough to ignite the air-fuel mixture. When those materials wear out, the plug's effectiveness is reduced, which significantly impacts acceleration.

Let's examine what this configuration is and how it impacts your driving.

Traditionally, pick-up trucks have a body-on-frame design. This means that the chassis is separate from the rest of the components, so it can better handle the bumps and ruts common in off-road driving or on job sites.

Essentially, having a separate frame allows the truck to flex when needed so that the wheels retain contact with the surface - even if it is bumpy and uneven. This allows for more refined responses,  especially when paired with features like shift-on-the-fly 4x4 and automatically-lowering air suspension systems (both of which improve aerodynamics, efficiency, and handling). These can help the steering feel more precise and maximize the body-on-frame configuration.

Contact our dealership today if you would like to learn more about the design, components, and features of RAM trucks. We can help you schedule a test drive so that you can experience the handling for yourself - and we will also offer exclusive financing and promotional opportunities.

The two options provide different benefits as far as traction, towing, and fuel economy. The AWD models have a unique part-time, shift-on-the-fly system that brings the best of both worlds to Vermilion owners.

2021 RAMs, including the 1500, 2500, and 3500, offer a part-time four-wheel drive. This system allows the vehicle to switch seamlessly between 4WD and RWD using a front-axle disconnect component. If just two wheels are receiving torque, the fuel economy improves slightly. You can also get better towing performance, but only on roads with good traction.

How does the part-time 4x4 work? It uses a transfer case to switch driving modes. It is a shift-on-the-fly system, so you can change between RWD and 4WD while moving at speeds of up to 88 km/h. It relies on an electrical, mechanical motor with a vacuum line that ensures a smooth transition.

Front and rear stabilizer bars (standard on 4x4 models) and an available anti-spin differential also assist with traction and steering in slippery or otherwise challenging conditions.

If you have questions about the mechanics or capabilities of RAM's shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system, contact our dealership today.

What Is Jeep's Quadra Lift Air Suspension System in Lloydminster, AB?

<a href="https://stpauldodge.com/inventory/details/1127/new-2021-jeep-cherokee-trailhawk-1C4PJMBX3MD161826"><img src="/images/upload/2021_September_/jeep_cherokee_trailhawk.jpg"alt="A 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk parked in a lot next to a St. Paul auto showroom"/></a>Some Jeep models come with the Quadra Lift Air Suspension System. This component is different from the standard leaf design, and it does not rely on regular coil springs.

Here is a closer look at how the air suspension system works and what it brings to Lloydminster drivers.

The Quadra Lift system is available in the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and Summit, as well as other premium and off-road models in the automaker's stable. It relies on air springs, which can move the vehicle up and down by as much as 104 mm by altering the pressure. The change happens automatically, and it can increase ground clearance when needed and enhance efficiency by lowering the stance while on the highway.

Since the system adjusts automatically, it provides the best clearance and aerodynamics for the given situation. It can also lower the SUV to make it easier to get in and out and load cargo. The components overall are slightly heavier, so they decrease fuel economy, but the difference is negligible.

If you would like to find an auto with Jeep's Quadra Lift Air Suspension, contact our Alberta dealership today. We also have a service centre if you need to perform maintenance on an existing vehicle's system.

These elements work together to reduce road noise and dampen the loud sounds that are common at job sites.

RAM vehicles have both active and passive noise reduction systems. The windshield, for example, has acoustic glass with an extra layer that dampens road sounds when you are on the street. Furthermore, the hood is sculpted to direct the air over the truck rather than at the wipers.

RAM trucks also come with an Active Noise Cancellation system. This unique feature is similar to the technology used to make high-end over-the-ear headphones.

There are four microphones in the cabin to detect and define unwanted noises. The system then broadcasts the opposite sound over the truck's speakers. The result is that it literally cancels out the drone of the road or wind or the clanging of a job site.

Finally, available air suspension not only helps create a smoother ride for passengers it also limits the sounds that occur when the car goes over cracks and bumps on the road.

If you would like to experience this unique set of features, contact our St. Paul dealership today to schedule a test drive.

<a href="https://stpauldodge.com/inventory#/?&orderBy=5&asc=1&t=0&filter=[New%2CRam%2C3500%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C4WD%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C]"><img src="/images/upload/August_2021/ram_3500_heavy_duty_shocks.jpg"alt="A 2021 RAM 3500 carrying two pallets of bricks in its bed with the liftgate open"/></a>Coil springs are an essential part of any vehicle’s suspension system. They absorb the impact of a rough and uneven road, making for a smoother ride and protecting other drivetrain components from rattling and wear-and-tear.

Pickups like the RAM 3500 have heavy-duty coil springs, which use denser materials to provide better protection than standard units. If your truck lacks this extra-strong component, you can visit our service centre to find out if you can upgrade to more-capable ones.

Here are some of the reasons to use a truck with heavy-duty suspension.

You can carry heavier loads

Heavy-duty coil springs can handle heavier loads than regular ones and will provide a stiffer, more responsive ride when you are towing a boat or construction equipment.

You can drive on rougher roads

Heavy-duty coil springs are ideal for rocky, uneven roads. They provide comfort for you and your passengers and keep vehicle components from breaking.

You get more clearance room

Heavy-duty coil springs can boost your ground clearance by an inch or more compared to regular units, and they will keep that distance from the road even if you are carrying a hefty load.

To find a truck with heavy-duty suspension or to inquire about installing new coils, contact our dealership today. We will happily schedule you an appointment with our service team at your earliest convenience.

The design makes more space for cargo if the seats are retracted. When not in use, these compartments can provide storage for other items.

The Stow’ N Go bins are under the floor mat in front of each row. To access the compartments, you simply disengage the lock rod and pull on the handle near the seat. The hatch will open easily, though you may need to slide the nearby chair forward if it blocks the path.

To use the Stow’ N Go feature, you first need to ensure the front rows are far enough forward. You then have to fold the armrests and remove any loose items that may block the process. There is a strap on the bottom of each seat or bench section. When you pull on it, the chair folds down until you can comfortably close the hatch and replace the mat.

When you need the seat again, you simply open the compartment and pull on the same strap until the chair comes up and clicks into place.

If you would like to try the Stow’ N Go feature on the Chrysler Pacifica orGrand Caravan models, contact our Alberta dealership today.

What You Need to Know About Tire Maintenance in Lloydminster, AB

<a href="https://stpauldodge.com/inventory#/?&orderBy=5&asc=1&t=0&filter=[New%2CJeep%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C]"><img src="/images/upload/July_2021/jeep_wrangler_wheel.jpg"alt="Closeup of Jeep Wrangler wheel and off-road tire"/></a>Your tires are the only parts of your vehicle that come into direct contact with the road. They experience ongoing wear and tear and need to be maintained for both performance and safety.

Ideally, you will inspect your tires monthly. However, if you drive regularly, especially on uneven roads or a cold climate, you should check them once every two weeks. Below are some of the things to consider while examining the wheels.

Tires can suffer from one of three problems that can cause excess and uneven wear and tear:
  • Over-inflation
  • Under-inflation
  • Poor wheel alignment
Over-inflation makes the middle wear faster, but insufficient air pressure causes the edges to age more quickly. Poor wheel alignment diminishes the treads on one side of the tire while leaving the other looking new (because it is not actually contacting the road).

Rotating and Wheel Alignment

Your front and rear tires wear down at different rates, so it’s a good idea to visit a service centre to rotate them every 8,000 km to get the most life out of them. You should also have your wheels aligned after 20,000 kilometres, or if you ever notice that the steering is not straight.

If you would like assistance with your tire maintenance, contact our service centre today and schedule an appointment.
<a href="https://stpauldodge.com/inventory#/?&orderBy=5&asc=1&t=0&filter=[New%2CJeep%2CGrand%20Cherokee%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C]"><img src="/images/upload/June_2021/remote_start_uconnect.jpg"alt="Person in a cafe looking at their remote start app on a smartphone"/></a>Remote starters are among the most popular features in modern vehicles. They don’t always come standard, but it is possible to have a service centre technician install one for you. The system is available on many autos, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Charger.

Remote starters are especially beneficial in areas with extreme weather changes, but they can also offer other advantages.

Warm up the engine before driving

Starting your engine and driving immediately can stress the motor because the oil hasn’t had time to warm up yet. You can trigger the remote ignition before leaving the house, giving the lubricant a chance to heat up and become effective.

Greater security

With a remote starter, your keys don’t need to be in the vehicle while the engine is running, but it will switch off if someone opens the door or sits in the driver's seat. The car is perfectly secure as it warms up.

Warm your car and windshield beforehand

You can set the defrost and heater in the "on" position, and they will warm and de-ice the vehicle after you activate the remote start feature. This advantage can be especially desirable during cold winters.

If you would like to find a vehicle with a remote starter, contact our dealership today. You can also visit our service centre to inquire about having a system installed.
<a href="https://stpauldodge.com/inventory#/?&orderBy=5&asc=1&t=0&filter=[New%2CChrysler%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C%2C]"><img src="/images/upload/June_2021/2021_Chrysler_shifter.jpg"alt="Closeup of Chrysler's rotary shifter with a silver knob on the centre console"/></a>You might be wondering whether to opt for a manual or automatic transmission for your next car. There are different advantages to each choice, but most people prefer the latter because it is more convenient.

Automatic transmissions are easier to operate, but they have other important advantages, as well.

An automatic transmission is more versatile

If you like a higher level of control, many modern automatic transmissions have dual-mode setups. You can switch into manual and use either a lever or wheel-mounted paddles to shift gears. Vehicles such as the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 offer this feature.

They are more comfortable to drive

Automatic vehicles offer convenience. There’s no clutch to activate manually, and you do not have to keep removing your hand from the wheel to shift gears. Both short and long trips are more comfortable because the vehicle demands less interaction from the driver.

They offer better fuel economy

Traditionally, automatic vehicles have had a reputation for being less fuel-efficient than manual ones. However, modern versions of both standard and Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) offer optimal performance thanks to a perfectly tuned gear shifting system.

To learn more about vehicles with automatic transmissions and to get your gear-changing system serviced, contact our dealership today.
