on DECEMBER 7, we have a double feature - learn about the new CREW membership and how to join groups exploring BC & BEYOND by BOAT - and meet COOPER VETERAN INSTRUCTOR ALAN BOREHAM as he debuts his new book BEER IN THE BILGES

on DECEMBER 15 our HOLIDAY PARTY at KITSILANO YACHT CLUB is back

certainly a mixed bag for weather on our last flotilla completely in 2012 (the NEW YEAR's event crosses to 2013 of course)

it started with the renaming ceremony SATURDAY morning for GENA II ~ ensuring the gods would be kind to her with the new name (and ensuring she wouldn't sink enroute to our first destination)  (KEY WORD for the morning: libations)

GENA II ~ undersail with her newly minted name (ENGLISH BAY)

CORENIA making her way up the NORTH SHORE (ENGLISH BAY)

in preparation for the POTLUCK dinner, new owner BRIAN & assitante ALEX prepared the PRINCESS PATRICIA to receive guests

and let the POTLUCK begin - testing the limits to the capacity of the WESTCOAST 46'

watch the carpet please says new owner BRIAN!

lots of tasty treats and the boat at absolute capacity

WAYNE is happy because he's so much taller than SEAN - we're not sure why SEAN is happy - must be the food

a few laughs on the sundeck of PRINCESS PATRICIA

more POTLUCK fun

WOODY had a great time not having sunk on the way over thanks in part to the official re-naming ceremony that morning ~ he also gave specific orders to eat all the LASAGNA so he wouldn't have to pack it back on the plane (reminders of that great cat GARFIELD?)

the next morning saw getting the boats out with no room to spare thanks to the arrival of the fishing fleet overnight

SHADOWFAX squeezes out with millimeters to spare

and CORENIA follows with at least an inch or two more to spare

we abandoned plans for SMUGGLER's COVE and headed up around GAMBIER ISLAND and back to SNUG COVE

after a lively night dockside at SNUG that saw STRAY CAT reposition from one side of the government dock to the other to minimize the bouncing - PRINCESS PATRICIA weathered the windward side of the dock all night and watched a couple movies

the this morning we left SNUG COVE and headed back to GRANVILLE ISLAND - all 7 flotilla boats are now tucked in back at GRANVILLE ISLAND

CATCH YOU AT THE NEXT EVENT!

met this morning with loyal COOPER client CHAD BREMNER in CALGARY - CHAD is doing the CLIPPER ROUND THE WORLD RACE & brought this heartfelt information to our attention:

Looking for a little support from the sailors around the World. 15 sailors will escort "Tyler the Monkey" around the world in support of a 5 yr old boy and his fight with cancer.

Tyler Puetz from Regina Saskatchewan Canada was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in Sept 2012. He is currently receiving treatment in Saskatoon Canada.

To support Tyler in his battle with cancer, a team of 15 sailors from the CLIPPER RTW race who are currently training to sail and race around the world in 2013 have joined together and will carry our mascot "Tyler the Sailing Monkey" around the world. For the full story check out the Facebook page "SAILING AROUND THE WORLD FOR TYLER"

STEVE CROWE from NORTH SAILS VANCOUVER is aboard TEAM ALEGRIA for 2013

here is what he has to say -

Congratulations on the order of the new Dufour 45e for advanced and offshore training programs at Cooper Boating.  Having a modern vessel with such a rare combination of speed, comfort and style will certainly raise the bar for sail training in our region.

We are especially delighted to be supplying the sails to this program and look forward to supplying both the MARATHON 3DL and downwind sails for the new vessel.   Our North Sails team in Vancouver looks forward to sea trials and being involved with the expert level sail training on ALEGRIA in 2013

join the RALLY to save our KITSILANO COAST GUARD BASE ~ AUGUST 25th at VANIER PARK from 1pm onwards

it seems a really bone headed move to close the CCG base in KITSILANO ~ VANCOUVER HARBOUR has so many boats out and having the COAST GUARD close by seems paramount to boating safety

we understand the need to make cuts ~ but this one seems to be a little off the mark ~ add your voice so critical functions like search & rescue don't vanish from our playground

ADVENTURE SAILING courses in 2013 are looking more excitng then ever!  We are looking forward to the arrival of ALEGRIA, a  brand new 2013 Dufour 45e 4 cabin yacht to our school fleet for next season. This Dufour  won the 2011 cruising world  boat of the year award.  A great all round performer, ALEGRIA  will certainly make an impression on the students going round Vancouver Island in 2013.  Our 2013 dates will be published in the fall, so let us know if you would like to be notified of our next round Vancouver Island Course.  When not out on Advanced level courses, ALEGRIA will also be available for charter during the 2013 season.
