Take, for instance, the tachometer. This is a term youâ€™ve probably heard before. In fact, you are likely very familiar with the word. But do you know what it means?

By definition, a tachometer is â€œan instrument measuring the rotation speed of a shaft or disk, as in a motor or other machine. The device usually displays the revolutions per minute (RPM) on a calibrated analog dial, but digital versions are increasingly common.â€
