With their elegant style and top-of-the-line tech, INFINITI vehicles are highly regarded for their beauty and brains. But a recent partnership with the Mongolian Institute of Paleontology and Geology and the Hong Kong Chapter of The Explorers Club proves that this luxury fleet has its fair share of brawn as well.
Â
The Explorers Club is known for making history. They were the first to visit the North and South Poles, and they uncovered the ocean floor. This adventurous trend continues now at their camp in the Gobi Desert, where they, along with the Institute, have uncovered a number of important fossils: including a very rare primitive horned dinosaur in Bugyn Tsav.
Â
Where does INFINITI come in? Until recently, paleontologists would survey land by foot. For this 20-day expedition, however, a fleet of 2019 QX50s took them far and wide to prospect the topography. Throughout the experience, the hardy vehicles were subjected to sandstorms, boiling summer temperatures, and treacherous terrains.... and they endured all of this with ease.
Â
The 2019 QX50 gets its power from the first-of-its-kind VC-T engine, which yields class-leading performance (268 HP) and superior economy (24 city/30 highway). A brand new suspension damping control system affords drivers a steady ride; and, when paired with a minimum ground clearance of 8.6-in., it also allows them to roll over every obstacle.
Â
With revolutionary tech and engineering, INFINITI is also in the business of making history. It’s no surprise that the Institute and Explorer's Club chose the luxury vehicle company as their partner.

While the 2019 INFINITI QX60 is more than well-equipped in its standard form, adding the Essential Package to this full-size crossover earns you even more exciting features.
For starters, the EP upgrade includes InTouch Navigation. Capable of intuitively directing you to your destination of choice, the intelligent CPU also offers Lane Guidance — so you can forget about ever missing an exit again. Not only can the system inform you of the best path for your travel but, with 3D building graphics displayed to you from the primary monitor on the center console, you’ll have a better understanding of your surroundings. To further impress, the IT Nav also operates on one-shot voice recognition. This means, you can simply speak your intended locale and your QX60 will automatically plan your route.
The upgraded trim level also features the brand’s proprietary Around View Monitor With Moving Object Detection. Going above and beyond your typical backup displays, the AVM provides drivers with a full 360-degree panoramic perspective of their surroundings. Thanks to a collection of cameras on the body of the vehicle, when in “reverse,†the operator will be presented with a high-resolution live stream (complete with color-coded distance markers). Sensors, also fitted on the CUV’s exterior, are capable of tracking motion. So, if a pedestrian, vehicle, or rogue shopping cart enter your periphery, you will be alerted.

For example, the front grille, fog lamp finishers, and door moldings all feature a shaded hue. Additionally, the roof rails and crossbars receive dark premium paint to match the glossy black back bumper. To top it off, the rear hatch displays the exclusive “LIMITED†emblem.
Inside the special edition QX60, the cabin reflects a bespoke feel with upscale contrast stitching on unique stone-colored leather throughout. With the reveal of the first-of-its-kind combustion engine, the auto world is already charmed with the new 2019 INFINITI QX50 - but that isn’t the only thing this luxury crossover has going for it.Â
Â
The midsize SUV is the first production model in the world with front and rear side members made from Nissan’s Super High Formability Steel (SHF). This state-of-the-art material boasts a superior tensile strength of 980 megapascals and accounts for 27% of the vehicle’s construction. The durable metal has remarkable pliability that allows companies to create parts that are much thinner than conventional ones, according to Green Car Congress.
Â
These advancements promise a future of lighter vehicles that can be made without sacrificing strength and safety. Though parts created with the new material are much thinner than those made with standard steel, they maintain the ability to absorb energy during collision. You’ll also notice an improvement in torsional rigidity, which means reduced noise in the cabin and an overall resistance to flex and body vibrations.Â
Â
While the SUV only sees a nominal weight loss (less than 100 lbs.) over its predecessor, there is a reported 30% increase in fuel economy. The 2019 QX50, with a combined 26 mpg (24 city/30 highway), surpasses the 2017 model and its 20 mpg combined (17 city/24 highway).Â
Â
This is all in line with the initiative announced by Nissan to lower CO2 emissions from new vehicles by 40%. We’re certain to see more INFINITI models made with SHF down the road. Â

While its standard model is impressive enough, for consumers who like a little more oomph in their engine, the 2019 INFINITI Q70 5.6 LUXE over-delivers on both energy and performance to offer an unparalleled commuting experience. And that's not all. To further impress, this flagship premier sedan is also available in both rear- and all-wheel drive.
As its name suggests, this charged-up model boasts a 5.6-liter, 32-valve, DOHC, aluminum alloy V8 that is capable of producing 420 HP with 417 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a Direct Injection Gasoline system, there is a more precise delivery of fuel into the combustion chamber.
Meanwhile, Variable Valve Event and Lift technology utilizes electronically controlled timing methods for passing oxygen into the camshafts with more exacting frequency. By combining DIG functionality with the advanced VVEL, the result is an engine that is both highly powerful and efficient.
Speaking in numbers, the RWD version of this dynamic carrier earns 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway, while the AWD makes the same 16 MPG in an urban setting and 23 MPG on the open road.
