These guys don’t communicate with each other.

These guys don’t communicate with each other. We wasted hours at the dealership test driving and getting a contract worked out and at the last minute we were told, “ oh this truck was sold 2 days ago”. We had taken a ferry into the city specifically to purchase this truck. How hard is it for the sales guys to put a sold sign on a vehicle? You would think they would have a bulletin board with inventory sales listed. Unacceptable!

It’s a banner month for Nissan!

Recently, the Automotive Science Group (ASG), a data-driven research group established by Eco-innovations, LLC, recognized four of Nissan’s automobiles as part of the annual 11-category evaluation of cars they conduct in order to determine those with the finest all-around performance and greatest economic contribution.

Here’s how it all breaks down: The 2019 Kicks won the "Best Economic Performance" award in the compact crossover segment as a result of its dedication to low annual operating costs; similarly, the 2019 Rogue was recognized with this honor in the mid-size SUV segment, managing to best 184 other machines in the process. Also, the 2019 Versa earned the "Best 5 All-Around Performance” honor in the small car competition, while the 2019 LEAF graced the same award in the mid-large size group. Finally, the Rogue and Kicks also earned this distinction in the SUV and crossover segments, respectively, as a result of combined economic, environmental, and social performance ratings.

nissan leaf dealer seattle tacoma bellevue washingtonThis week in Detroit, the 2018 Nissan Leaf was recognized as the highest rated redesign at the inaugural J.D. Power Engineering Awards, which were presented at the Society of Automotive Engineers 2019 WCX World Congress Experience.

"This award is a credit to [the] hundreds of Nissan technical professionals here in the U.S., as well as in Japan," said Chris Reed, Senior VP of Engineering at Nissan North America, in a press release. "Any vehicle redesign requires a massive amount of coordination across many functional teams, and I am very proud of the excellent vehicle this effort produced, which has been recognized by J.D. Power."

Within the automotive industry, J.D. Power has cemented itself as the authority for benchmarking quality. With their new Engineering Awards, they are able to recognize the achievements of innovators who turn concept vehicles into practical modes of transportation. The Leaf is a prime example – since its release in 2010, the all-electric car’s engineers have been able to utilize the lessons learned from each generation and apply that education to the Leaf’s latest redesign, which will see the release of a PLUS version later this year.

To learn more about the Leaf’s engineering excellence or to inquire about the forthcoming Leaf PLUS, contact Kirkland Nissan in Seattle, Washington, today.

Across the globe, work is underway to leverage the power of Nissan Intelligent Mobility by providing a sustainable energy system to a boarding school in Pretoria, South Africa. Nissan has partnered with Filadelfia School to improve its access to reliable electricity and increase the use of renewable energy. This initiative is part of the automaker’s commitment to advancing the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

According to Nissan, the national grid provides energy access to 85 percent of the population; however, capacity and connection constraints often mean that the school experiences several outages a month that can last from a few hours to a full day. With a student body of 400 disabled youths ranging from 14- to 21-years old, these unscheduled energy blackouts cause a significant amount of disruption to Filadelfia School.

To help combat the issue, Nissan is using a combination of second-life batteries from Leaf all-electric vehicles and solar panels to provide the school with a sustainable energy system that helps mitigate the impact of electricity shortages in the community. Now when faced with a blackout, the students can continue on with their scheduled activities in a safe manner by tapping into the power provided by the renewal energy source.

2019 nissan leaf for sale in seattle tacoma kirkland newcastle renton waNorth of the border, the Nissan Leaf was recognized for yet another award honoring the world’s best-selling electric vehicle. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada presented the EV with a 2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year Award at the Vancouver International Auto Show, beating out other popular contenders, including the Honda Clarity and Insight.

Redesigned two years ago, the current generation Leaf offers a
150 mile range from a 40-kWh battery. However, back in January, exciting news was released about the forthcoming Nissan Leaf PLUS, which will be available this year with an upgraded 62-kWh battery pack, delivering an increased range of 226 miles. Even with the PLUS version coming soon, the 150-mile range Leaf was enough to win over the 65 Automobile Journalists Association of Canada judges to determine the Green Car Award winner.

Before long, the Leaf will be running out of space in its trophy case, as the accolades continue to roll in. Most recently, the EV surpassed its 400,000 units sold mark, proving that North America and the world can’t get enough of this zero-emission vehicle.

2019 nissan leaf for sale in tacoma bellevue edmonds everett washingtonNissan reached an incredible milestone today! The automaker announced that the Leaf all-electric vehicle has surpassed 400,000 sales since its release as a mass-market platform in December 2010. This news makes the Leaf the best-selling electric car of all time across the globe!

Once a vehicle for early adopters, the Nissan Leaf is no longer niche. A growing number of consumers are choosing the car for its sustainability, agile performance and advanced technologies, including ProPILOT Assist. According to Inside EVs, sales of the Leaf have steadily climbed in recent years, jumping from 200,000 models in 2015 to 300,000 models in 2018. Surpassing the 400,000 sales milestone in less than a year solidifies the platform’s role in the global shift towards more sustainable transportation.

And, in terms of sustainability, Nissan estimates that 3.8 million barrels of oil have been saved each year since the Leaf’s release in 2010. In that time, Leaf owners have also driven more than 6 billion miles, which is the equivalent of 248,000 trips around the globe. How’s that for perspective?

Currently, the Leaf is available in more than 50 markets worldwide and will go on sale in six new markets in Latin America and seven in Asia and Oceania this year. If you ask us, it won’t be long before the EV surpasses the half-million sales mark.

To learn more about the Leaf’s successes or to schedule a test drive in a new or
preowned model, contact Kirkland Nissan in Seattle, Washington.
2019 nissan leaf plus for sale in seattle tacoma kirkland bellevue washingtonThe all-new 2019 Leaf PLUS goes on sale at select Nissan dealers nationwide this month. Ahead of the vehicle’s official release, Nissan has unveiled pricing for the higher-output all-electric vehicle, which promises to deliver more range on a single charge.

The 2019 Leaf PLUS will be available in three trims: S PLUS, SV PLUS and SL PLUS. Pricing for the base level starts at $36,550, while the SV PLUS is offered at $38,510, followed by the top-of-the-line grade at $42,550.

All Leaf PLUS models are energized by a 62-kWh battery pack, which churns a 160-kW motor to produce 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. According to the automaker, the new Nissan LEAF S PLUS powertrain adds to the car's range by approximately 50 percent for a total of 226 miles (versus the current Leaf’s 150-mile range). Charging for the PLUS will be handled by a new 70 kW Quick Charge System, which won’t require any additional downtime over the regular model despite the 55-percent larger battery capacity.

2019 nissan leaf eplus seattle washingtonLast month, we shared news about the forthcoming 2019 Nissan Leaf e+, which is expected to go on sale in the U.S. later this spring. This highly-anticipated model will feature a larger 62 kWh battery pack and a higher output powertrain, delivering an increased range of 226 miles.

Since its unveiling, Nissan opened up pre-sales in Europe and received more than 3,000 orders for the Leaf 3.Zero Limited Edition model, which has 5,000 units planned. According to Ken Ramirez, Nissan Europe’s Senior VP of Sales and Marketing, the first thousand pre-orders were placed in the first day and 3,000 were reached in mid-January – just days after prices were announced.

With interest so high, Nissan has had to recalibrate their total volume expectations for the year to manage customer demand and wait times. With global buzz growing for the new Leaf e+, we anticipate that models will go just as quickly here in North America, as they have in Europe.

To learn more about the 2019 Leaf e+ and its features, driver assist inclusions and hot new tech, contact our team at Kirkland Nissan in Seattle, Washington, for a preliminary spec review or to pre-book a test drive.
As the maker of the best-selling all-electric vehicle, Nissan had a perplexing problem to solve – what to do with aging, old Leaf battery cells? Over the years, the company has used second-life batteries to generate street lights in Namie, Japan, or in an energy storage system to power the Johan Cruijff Arena stadium in Amsterdam, Netherlands. And, now, Nissan has unveiled yet another use for second-life Leaf fuel cells with a pop-up camper concept in partnership with off-road camping manufacturer Opus.

Designed for off-grid adventuring, the Leaf-powered pack stores 700wH and offers a maximum output of 1kW — plenty of juice to keep electronics, small appliances and even a mini-fridge charged up. A 400W solar panel can refresh the battery in two to four hours, but it can also be removed and plugged directly into any 230V outlet. According to Nissan, the second-life power pack can deliver up to a week’s worth of energy, allowing campers to remain connected and enjoy the comforts of home, while having the freedom to travel to remote areas.

There’s no word yet if Nissan and Opus’ collaboration will ever make it to the marketplace, but one can hope! To learn more about Leaf second-life batteries and how they are powering daily life, contact our team at Kirkland Nissan in Seattle, Washington, to discuss.
2019 nissan leaf for sale in seattle tacoma kirkland washingtonThe 2019 Leaf’s trophy case is growing! The world’s best-selling electric vehicle was recently honoured with Kelley Blue Book’s 2019 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the EV segment, which was presented to Nissan at the Chicago Auto Show. This is the Leaf’s second year in a row to win this award, proving that the zero emissions platform is not only good for the environment, but drivers’ wallets too.

To determine winners, KBB scoured data for all new models for the first five years of ownership, assessing factors such as depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state fees. The 2019 Leaf beat out other popular all-electric platforms, including the Kia Soul EV and the Chevy Bolt, with a 5-Year Cost to Own figure of $35,321.

Now in its second generation, the Leaf delivers greater range, a dynamic new design and the latest in Nissan's Intelligent Mobility technologies to drivers. Running on a 147-horsepower motor that generates 236 lb-ft of torque, the 2019 Leaf boasts a range of 150 miles on a single charge. Later this year, a new Leaf PLUS will join the EV’s line-up and it promises an increased range of 226 miles, which certainly sweetens the vehicle’s value proposition.

The Leaf e+ was the star of the show at CES 2019, but Nissan also debuted another vehicle – the all-new Leaf NISMO RC. This all-electric race car packs double the power and torque output of its predecessor and boasts dual electric motors, advanced battery technology, and all-wheel-drive capability in a sporty and attractive body.

According to Nissan, the Leaf NISMO RC’s two electric motors are placed at the opposite ends of the chassis and manage power independently to each axle for a total of 240 kW and 640 Nm of torque. This racer also boasts a low weight of only 2,690 lbs and a carbon fiber monocoque chassis that helps the EV reach 62 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds – a 50 percent improvement over the previous generation of the Leaf NISMO RC. Now that’s fast for a plug-in!

As for its looks, the car is marked with Nissan’s signature V-motion grille and a long hood, as well as an eye-catching silver-and-black paint scheme with NISMO red accents. Whether cornering at high speeds or waiting at the start line for the flag to drop, the Nissan Leaf NISMO RC always appears as if it’s in constant motion.

Wish you could experience the Leaf NISMO? Unfortunately, this platform isn’t available for purchase. However, at Kirkland Nissan, our lot is stocked with new Leaf EV models, awaiting your test drive. Call us today to book an appointment.
