An affordable price tag under $15K and an overtly sporty design are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the 2008 Mazda CX-7 Sport. Where this crossover utility shines is its crisp, responsive steering and its suite of passive and active safety features.

According to The Car Connection, the CX-7’s handling lives up to its sporting pretension. Its steering is nicely weighted and very stables during turns and quick direction changes, giving it a firm ride quality that’s enjoyable and comfortable. Power is generated by the 2.3-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection (DISI) engine, producing 244 horsepower. This powerplant is very similar to the engine used in the now-obsolete MazdaSpeed6 sport sedan, but with greater versatility and more room from the larger body size.Â
Â
What’s more, with high ratings for impact protection from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2008 Mazda CX-7 is a very safe vehicle for families. The NHTSA also gave it five stars for crash protection and four for rollover protection. Standard safety features include ABS brakes, traction control, stability control and electronic brakeforce distribution.
