Dodge Continues Its Rich History of Performance in Chilliwack, BC
Since the turn of last century, Dodge has captivated North America with cars, trucks, minivans, and SUVs that have ignited the imaginations of automotive aficionados from coast to coast and everywhere in-between.
The Dodge Brothers Company began life as a humble yet impressive machine shop in 1900. Originally solely a parts supplier to the likes of Ford and other Detroit, Michigan American auto manufacturers, the brothers behind the shop—Horace Elgin Dodge and John Francis Dodge—began competing directly with the big boys in 1914 when they began constructing their own complete automobiles in Hamtramck, Michigan. This actually preceded Chrysler’s founding.
Unfortunately for the Dodge brothers, they didn’t get to see the fruits of all their labor—they succumbed to the previous grand pandemic, the “Spanish Flu,” in 1920. Fortunately for car lovers, the company survived and eventually passed to Chrysler in 1928. Since that time, Dodge-branded vehicles have flourished, primarily consisting of full-size passenger cars and trucks into and through the 1970s, when a few compact and mid-size options also caught a foothold in the market as a result of the 1973 oil crisis.
A Modern Company With Modern Machines for Chilliwack, BC
Today, Dodge is under the umbrella of Stellantis N.V., a multinational automotive manufacturer created from the 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the PSA Group. The reach, influence, and automotive expertise of Stellantis grants Dodge the enviable position of being able to focus on what it does best: the creation of unbelievably thrilling performance cars and SUVs.
Dodge Challenger
Although the “Challenger” moniker first came into use in 1959, it didn’t become associated with performance vehicles until the first-generation of this pony car roared onto North American roads in 1970. Now, in its current incarnation, it’s the first machine in its class to offer seating for five.
Perhaps more importantly for enthusiasts throughout Chilliwack, the new Dodge Challenger hasn’t lost its firm grip on power, with its base SXT version offering 305 horses and 268 lb-ft. of torque. Of course, those really looking for a wild time can enjoy something like the R/T, which boasts a 5.7L HEMI V8 capable of 375 HP and 410 lb.-ft. of torque—or even the top-of-the-line High-Output SRT Hellcat Redeye model with 807 horses and 717 lb.-ft. of torque.
Dodge Charger
While the Challenger flexes its coupe muscles, the Dodge Charger is something all its own. First hitting the streets in 1966, today’s version is a four-door beast—in fact, Dodge calls it “the most powerful, quickest and fastest sedan ever” (based on NHRA certified testing for the SRT Hellcat model).
Drivers of the new Charger have their choice of myriad engines with impressive performance numbers. The fun starts with a 3.6L V6 with 300 HP and 264 lb.-ft. of torque and culminates in an astonishing 6.2L HEMI High-Output SRT Hellcat V8 engine with 797 horses and 707 lb.-ft. of torque.
Dodge Durango
The Durango is Dodge letting the world know that performance SUVs can finally be done the right way. It rocks and rolls with a standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that easily creates 360 HP and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, while also providing the option of a stellar 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8 that dazzles with 710 horses and 645 lb.-ft. of torque. All told, it’s the “most powerful SUV ever” among high-volume vehicles based on 1/4 mile time and towing capacity.
